Hall & Ellis skip WJ camp; Cowen to miss due to illness
http://www.tsn.ca/canadian_hockey/story/?id=329013
Oilers' top pick in the 2010 draft, and two time Memorial Cup winner and MVP, Taylor Hall, and fellow Windsor teammate Ryan Ellis, have both informed Team Canada that they will not be attending camp this summer. Ottawa Senators' top pick in 2009, Jared Cowen, has also turned them down. By skipping camp they have made themselves ineligible to play for Canada at the WJC.
Hall will surely be in the NHL, while Ellis may or may not, but could play in the AHL, [s]while Cowen is either turned off from last year, or expects to play for Ottawa in some capacity. [/s]
TSN updated this report after clarifying that Cowen did not turn down the invite, but rather would be in attendance, just not physically able to participate due to illness (mononucleosis).

Good for you Cowen, I support the decision ten fold.

i don't know i think cowen should have went if he isn't with the sens he has a huge opportunity here and he could show them the mistake they made last year by not playing him and show everyone how much better he is playing

It says he'll be in attendance but won't be cleared for contact.
EDIT: This obviously isn't as big a deal as the knee injury he suffered, but the poor kid can't catch a break. Hopefully it makes him mentally stronger.

phew! @ cowen NOT turning down the WJ camp. Sucks he has mono, but he'll recover well and now with Campoli signing again, I think he needs this WJ camp for motivation/experience as well. Last year sucked, but he could really take charge this season

Re: Hall & Ellis skip WJ camp; Cowen to miss due to illness
So, not being able to physically participate, does that end any chance of making the team?

Re: Hall & Ellis skip WJ camp; Cowen to miss due to illness
My guess is it doesn't; otherwise, why would he be in attendance?

That makes sense.
