Re: Gomez to Montreal for Higgins
From RDS:
---
Pavel Valentenko was considered one of the Habs' bright prospects on D, as was McDonagh.
There may be more activity as a result...

Chris Higgins + Ryan McDonagh????
Oh Bob
I guess that's what happens when you have too much cap space and 0 N1 Center.

Re: Gomez to Montreal for Higgins
Gainey gets an 'impact player' in Gomez...but this may be a prelude to his pitch for the Sedins.
Gomez never lived up to expectations in NY, but he was an excellent player in New Jersey, so perhaps Bob has plans...
Higgins has been mentioned in trade talks for some time now...not surprising he has been moved. A former 25-plus goal man, he may get a chance to relaunch with Tortorella.

i know very unreliable source and it pretty much kills the rumour but eklund says a heatley deal should be going down very soon

Re: Gomez to Montreal for Higgins
Wow, nice deal for the Rangers, but Montreal had to do something. They get the center they wanted (I assume they couldn't get Vinny), now they'll have to see what they can do on July 1.
Montreal definitely had to give up a lot, but they can't attract UFAs, so, that's the price.
Crazy times! Good for Sather. Possibly the first good move he's made in 5 years.

I like it personally. With no impact centers, they went and got an excellent player. Is he worth 7 million? Definitely not, but he's worth something. Nice player. Waived his NTC to play in Montreal.
Nice trade IMO.

Fakelun's rumor makes no sense about heatley going to the NYR. They have nothing really I can see Ottawa wanting outside of Staal. All their top prospects are D men other than a couple of russian forwards.

Gomez won a few Stanley Cups in New Jersey...works his tail off. He'll do well with Bob and Jacques.
Slats swung himself a pretty sweet deal here...let's see what he does next.

Grachev is pretty sick... saw him at the tourny and thought he was just as good as any player in that tourny. Really impressed with him, didnt dissapear in the Semi's either...
1st, Staal, Grachev, sign me up.

Good move? I'd chaulk it up to more of dumping one of his many mistakes (Redden, Antripov, Gomez, Drury and maybe soon to be Heatley.SpezDispenser wrote:Wow, nice deal for the Rangers, but Montreal had to do something. Give him credit for fixing one of his mistakes though. It couldn't have been easy to move Gomez.

Yes, to us. He's coming I think. Along with one of the two Russian prospects and something out of left field. Hopefully not Zherdev, unless the Sens' scouts like him and don't see him as a guy who will give up. And also depending on how much he wants.

Yep. Seems imminent. Damn, I wanted Phaneuf after all that. :^^^^: Staal, Higgins and someone else I would imagine. Should happen soon too.

He's good and physical. Can score 25 (Hat trick VS Sens las season).
Consistency problems, but the main reason = has been bounced from line 1 to 3 because Carbonneau was weird with his line combinations.
Just imagine = Higgins on line one with Alfie and Spezza.
We sign a UFA on line 2 to play with Dubinsky and another guy, whoever.
We keep FFS on line 3.
That's some depth.
I wouldn't mind Grachev or Anisimov, but Sather won't give them.

I'll defer to you guys, I know nothing of them and Dawg is still holed up doing the FA thing.

He'll give one of those guys up, but he won't give up Dubinsky. So it'll be Staal/Dubinsky(if he gives him up), one of the Ruskies and Higgins.
I'm pretty confident that this is the new plan A and that plan B is Calgary.
Let's do this.

That was the stalworth before. Higgins still has no team on tsn, expect him to be shipped out again. Higgins, Boylle and Del Zotto

Staal, Higgins and Dubinski? Are you guys serious? While I agree that this *may be* Sather making room for Heatley, I don't think we would get all three unless we also took back Redden.
