Yes. His skating is already better than Philips', he can lead the rush from end to end, I don't know why we can't expect that when he's here.
With Karlsson and Wiercioch's offensive upsides I wouldn't be devastatingly upset if Cowen turned into more of a shutdown defenceman. That being said I hope he turns into a Chara and not a Gill.
devastatingly upset is 2 big words, I wouldn't go that far. But why settle for a Chris Philips when you can get a Tyler Myers?

That's why I feel another year in Junior or AHL before the NHL is what he needs to improve his offensive side even more.

i wouldnt consider philips as awful offensively. He just isnt a PP guy. He has a nice breakout pass and has a way of getting his wrister to the net, although i would agree that he doesnt have a good slapshot and wont score 10+ goals.

My guess is OFA (Online Forum Anonymous). Maybe he can recommend a good rehab place for some of us when he gets back.

No
I'm actually worried when phillips retires we won't have that big vetran d-man that can calm things down and consistently shut the other teams best players down. I think we have all got used to Phillips and don't realize how important he is-pair that with his leadership and we have a big hole.
No one ever says anything about Phillips cause he just does his job-and that is a compliment to him.
It would be great if Cowen can help with that.

Hagman doesn't belong as the Leafs' top goal-scorer any more.
It's hard not to cringe at the 60 powerplay goals allowed by the Leafs, especially when they've registered fewer penalty minutes than the Sens.
Also, as far as Cowen being Phillips 2.0 goes, I think his defensive game will be similar (he's bigger, granted, and a little more physical), but I'll be surprised if he doesn't put up better numbers. His shot is already much better than Phillips', IMO. And if he and Karlsson end up playing together, he's going to get a lot of opportunities to shoot the puck.

Not a chance in Hell for me.
I would...Mattias Karlsson for Luke Schenn sounds about even to me.
I bet people's opinion would be different if Schenn was having another season like he did last year. Sophomore slump, not unheard of, and Karlsson necessarily won't be exempt next year
It wouldn't, but that's because the issue is somewhat divorced from their respective calibres. Schenn is redundant in Ottawa because of the Cowen draft pick. Our experiences under Hartsburg have shown how vital puck-movement and a quick transition is both to offence and to defence, and Karlsson's skill-set is vastly beyond anything else we have in the organization, with the exception of Wiercioch (who is still not at the same calibre).
Anyway, Schenn's actually turned it around the last month or so. He's a good player and he'll almost certainly wear the C at some point.

Not really. He's 31 - and only 7 days older than Phillips. Not every defenceman follows the same career trajectory as Redden. Obviously Lidstrom is a career example but he's still chugging along at 39.
The issue with Kaberle is he's been pretty soft and weak in his own zone. But he's certainly not over the hill.

And what an Epic collapse by the leafs tonight. A collapse of cosmic proportions. Up 3-1 with 4 minutes to go and they lose in REGULATION!!!! McAmmond scores with 3:06 left. McAmmond assists on Zajac's game tying PP goal with 44 seconds left. And Pandolfo scores the game winner with 19 seconds to go.
An absolute Colossal collapse.

What a collapse. I saw only the final two minutes of that game -- TOR gives up a PP goal with less than a minute, and then gives up an even strength goal with less than 20 seconds.
That team finds ways to lose.
Also noteworthy: guess who was out on the point, with Kovalchuk, in the last minute of the game, on the PP, making the sweet pass to Zajac? Yep, Dean McAmmond. Go Deaner!

But I thought Heatley would be Judas.

He apparently made an even better play to hold up with puck just before the goal to give the extra man time to join the play. Good heads up veteran play.

Judas is the one with his elbow on the table (Fisher). From Wikipedia:
The Last Supper specifically portrays the reaction given by each apostle when Jesus said one of them would betray him. All twelve apostles have different reactions to the news, with various degrees of anger and shock. From left to right:
* Bartholomew, James, son of Alphaeus and Andrew form a group of three, all are surprised.
* Judas Iscariot, Peter and John form another group of three. Judas is wearing green and blue and is in shadow, looking rather withdrawn and taken aback by the sudden revelation of his plan. He is clutching a small bag, perhaps signifying the silver given to him as payment to betray Jesus, or perhaps a reference to his role within the 12 disciples as treasurer. He is the only person to have his elbow on the table. Peter looks angry and is holding a knife pointed away from Christ, perhaps foreshadowing his violent reaction in Gethsemane during Jesus' arrest. The youngest apostle, John, appears to swoon.
* Jesus
* Apostle Thomas, James the Greater and Philip are the next group of three. Thomas is clearly upset; James the Greater looks stunned, with his arms in the air. Meanwhile, Philip appears to be requesting some explanation.
* Matthew, Jude Thaddeus and Simon the Zealot are the final group of three. Both Jude Thaddeus and Matthew are turned toward Simon, perhaps to find out if he has any answer to their initial questions.

Look what Mikey was up to when the Sens had a couple of days off last weekend:

He didn't walk the red carpet because Carrie said she didn't want to "feed him to the wolves" this early in their engagement. So he waited for her at the other end.
I think she seriously underestimates the amount of media attention hockey gets in Ottawa. Yes, yes, I know it's different because it's Hollywood and all, but Mike's been photographed, interviewed, mic'd up quite a bit.

She probably didn't want him to face the inevitable embarrassing questions of "And you are??" or "What's it like being a nobody and being engaged to a somebody??" Because they don't know who Mike Fisher is.

Remember when I said the Leafs could not lose more than 3 in order to have a chance at 90 points? Last night was that went down to no-more than 2 losses. If the Sens run their streak to12 then it will down to no-more than 1 win. Are they really that close to being (nearly mathematically) eliminated?
