There wasnt any player that stood out beside Gufstasson, maybe Kessle.
I won't argue Gufstasson as the 1st star but in a game as brutal as that it isn't hard to positively 'stand-out'. It's like being the best player in an Edmonton/NYI game.
I dont disagree, the game was awful to watch and The Monster was the best of the worst. Nothing to write home about but he was the best player for either team last night.

Bozak played well all night and set up Kessel's goal. Those two absolutely were better than the Monster.
There's no point in debating with you because you think the Sens only applied pressure for a brief time in the third when the Leafs out shot them 17-8. I totally disagree with your premise that Gustaffson had a good night and in fact contend that he played poorly and was fortunate on the score sheet.
In this case the 4-1 score in no way reflects on just how Gustaffson played.

Kessel is quite the player, probably him. Every time he touched the puck I felt as if our somewhat immobile D was gonna back off so much he'd have a clear shot. Perhaps by default it would be Gustafsson, but I've blocked out most of that game and can't recall who on the Leafs was really good.

Sounds about right.

Mind you, I'm still in shock that people defend Ray Emery after what he did to us, so maybe my mind is all messed up right now.

It was a 3 on 2 and Kessle put that puck in the perfect spot. The only thing spectacular about Bozak there was working the 3 on 2 to perfectiong. He didnt do much else that entite game.
So, when did The Sens really hem The Leafs in their own zone? When was the momentum of the game clearly in The Sens favour? Any chance Ottawa had, Gufstasson pretty much shut the door. 29 saves on 30 shots... yeah, Stalberg, Gunerson, and Bozak were all just as impressive as that.
How you can take 6 players in a game like that and say there were better then the guy who stopped 29 of 30 shots, sucking up a large amount of those shots in the 1st and 2nd periods is basically hust lying to yourself.
I honestly havnt even looked at the 3 stars but I would be willing to bet The Toronto Sun, Ottawa Sun, and The NHL all picked Gufstasson as either number 1 or 2.

Anyways, Ottawa can't finish and that's pretty simple but it's true. How many turnovers did the Leafs had last night? Should have been a dozen goo scoring chances but I don't know anybody on this team that can shoot right. It's either right into the goalie or a missed shot.
Kovalev, Spezza and Alfie should be good at that but they don't seem to shoot often enough.
I'd draft snipers for the next 5 years in the 1st round.

Saying he stopped 29 of 30 shots is just as valuable an indicator of performance as 3 goals on 9 shots is. In other words completely not of value at all in evaluating Gustafsson in this game.

Here's what it comes down to- both Elliott and Gustafsson are average goalies but Gustafsson was better last night, and since he only let in 1 goal on 30 shots, that's why he was a star. Press people often don't look at anything but the stats when they pick the 3 stars.

Not sure about that. Mike Ribeiro and Morrow had 4 points 2 days ago and Lethonen who let in 2 goals was 1st star.

But he had 45 saves, so that's an exception.

Yeah but I often see something like that. A few weeks ago I saw a defenseman who was -1 0 pts and was first star, there was a forward who had a 3 point night... So I don't think they only watch stats^^

Well, this is the Ottawa media we're talking about, so I think they only check stats...I don't know who exactly chooses the stars, but if it's Garrioch and Brennan then we shouldn't even be talking about the 3 stars

I don't know how the NHL does it, but the OHL have the press box nominate three, so the commentators, the journalists, radio, they all nominate three.
