Wednesday Morning Roundup
Happy Hump Day!! Sens News for everyone!
Graeme gives his take no the HB rumours we were discussing yesterday, and also some conspiracy theories on why Alfie keeps getting sent down to the second line...
- The 6th Sens
This site is blocked for me at work.
Work Filter
If someone could post the Facebook link it's talking about, I'd appreciate it! (Yeah, icethetics is blocked, but Facebook isn't
)
- Icethetics
A little late getting across the editors desk, but a good read nonetheless. 5FS gives his take on the win in Uggo-Town.
- Five For Smiting
Over at Blood Red Army, a parrallel that Clutchie himself made a few days ago is exlpained in more detail, and is making me VERY excited about this Buffalo win.
- Blood Red Army
Meaghan is getting tired of the Khabibulin and Spezza rumours, just like the rest of us. Maybe she reads our forum? She also gives her take on the Mair incident, Barrack Obama's attempt to sabotage the Senators, and her new affiliation with a fantastic organization (HLOG). 'Grats to Meaghan!
- Sens at Land's End
Everyone's favourite insider agrees that Spezza is staying put, as he gives his take on the Buffalo effort. As usual, this is the first place I picked up this little insider tidbit:
- Sens Chirp
Hey, if Nikulin changed his mind and decided to stay, maybe Bell will too. I wonder if Tim Murray had a chat with Nikulin... All Murray's are :king: !!
Sherry weighs in on the Mair incident, and has a link to the Youtube video. On a side note, is it possible that Jarkko Ruutu has a somewhat Clark Kent personna by day??
- Scarlett Ice
TUC provides a little more backsided humour at Mair's expense.
- The Universal Cynic
Peter over at Sens army was the first one to produce this funny quote from Chris Neil (that I read anyways). Turns out the guy might have some wit after all!
- Sens Army
This one is a bit late, but Gerz has a new blog up.
- Gerry Bourdeau
This has been beaten to death with a stick, but if you haven't read it yet, here it is.
- He Who Shall Not Be Named
If anyone has any tips/critique for the format I've been using for these things, let me know in the comments!

[W]hy exactly would Ottawa trade their best center to Calgary unless it's for Phaneuf? Otherwise, you'd be looking at some rebuilding package of Cammalleri, Lombardi, Giordano and picks/prospects. Now does scenario make a whole lot of sense based upon the premise that you're acquiring a rental in Khabibulin?

It should be noted that I didn't see the original unpleasantness that led to Mr. Mair's willingness to fork over his next game cheque or three (screw you and your overpriced channel, NHL Network!) so I'm a little hesitant, for once, to editorialize. Suffice to say though, anytime Neiler can infuriate an opponent into a confrontation in which Jarkko Ruutu stands as the voice of reason, he's earned his money...and made most of my special places tingle.
- Five For Smiting
Over at Blood Red Army, a parrallel that Clutchie himself made a few days ago is exlpained in more detail, and is making me VERY excited about this Buffalo win.
The Sens came out flying that night, playing like a team that was absolutely possessed and beat the Sabres 4-1. This win not only energized the team, it was the turning point that sent them on an unbelievable tear (41-14-8) through the remainder of the regular season. What followed that, we need not discuss.
- Blood Red Army

[O]bviously Bryan Murray would want to trade the guy who has probably been Ottawa’s best player this season so far, who is only 25 years old, who finished eighth in the league in scoring last season despite missing six games, and who is signed long-term for what seems like a pretty reasonable cap hit of $7 million, to make room on the payroll for a 35-year-old, injury prone goalie whose $6.75 million deal expires at the end of this season. Right.
- Sens at Land's End
Everyone's favourite insider agrees that Spezza is staying put, as he gives his take on the Buffalo effort. As usual, this is the first place I picked up this little insider tidbit:
Word is Bell may have received an offer from a Russian league team and is currently weighing his options.
How hilarious is it that everybody else is changed into their street clothes and Adam Mair is still in his full hockey gear?
- Scarlett Ice
TUC provides a little more backsided humour at Mair's expense.
And for the record, did Phil Legault honestly think he could break this up if it got hectic?
- The Universal Cynic
Peter over at Sens army was the first one to produce this funny quote from Chris Neil (that I read anyways). Turns out the guy might have some wit after all!
"Maybe he was trying to take a 10-game suspension because he's already had two of those. He obviously doesn't like getting paid. I wish I had been here." - Chris Neil
- Sens Army
This one is a bit late, but Gerz has a new blog up.
I think it was a matter of confidence that caused the Sens to play more of a natural game and make smarter decisions with the puck. Having won 7 of the last 12 in Buffalo, the Sens had an expectation going in that they would be able to compete fairly well. Combine that with Spezza’s constant use of the fake slapper finally panning out for him and you have a Sens win.
- Gerry Bourdeau
This has been beaten to death with a stick, but if you haven't read it yet, here it is.
I am a donkey.

Teach me also.
If you mean using a VNC client, I tried that, and it worked at my last job, but it didn't work here. Any third party programs I install can't access the net.
I tried portable apps on a stick too, no dice.

If you're willing to do an NHL roundup rather than just Sens that would be good too. Since the site is for all Hockey fans that would be my suggestion.

Man I wish NHL GameCenter Live (online version of Center Ice) wasn't so expensive. I'd consider paying for it monthly and blogging on a couple of western conference teams whenever I get the chance. But alas, it is much too expensive for the limited funds of young college student.

This primarily revolves around a products by Bitvise called Tunnelier. It let's you establish a secure and encrypted tunnel from where ever you are, via an open port and back to a computer on your home network. Tunnelier can act as a proxy, and so you proxy all your web requests via this tunnel back to your home computer. It's like creating a VPN connection back to your home network to get around any "security" limitations of the network your connected to. The only requirement is to have an open port that you can get out with. It ain't for the technically faint of heart as it involves setting up a Dynamic DNS account, some port forwarding settings on your router and then configuring the Tunnelier software etc...

It's just not the same. The NHL one can stream four hi-def quality games at the same time apparently. Plus I get all of the games everyweek.
I might see if some people want to split it and just share the login info. We did it a couple of years ago with the NBA one and it worked out great.

I am a fund-limited post-secondary student as well.
I was considering getting it on the month by month, and probably will cave sooner rather than later. Only one person can be logged into the account at once, but I wouldn't have any issues with you logging in for Western conference games if the Sens aren't playing.

HA HA! Good point. Yeah... it does require a fairly good understanding of client/server architecture, TCP/IP, networking, SSH, encryption etc... Luckily for me, a lot of that stuff is what I do every day at work.
I'll still put together a high level "how to" and if anyone's curious to try, they can go ahead.
All the software and services that are used to do this are free and they do have a version for Portable Apps (which was mentioned by someone else) which I do use when I'm on the road without my laptop. I just plug my USB stick in to whatever machine I'm at and connect securely back home leaving nothing behind and no risk of having any of my data/traffic snooped on.
Paranoid? Maybe... secure? Yes.
Cheers.

Yes! If you have NHL Center Ice and a Slingbox, there's no need for the NHL Center Ice On-Line thing as you should be able to duplicate all of the on-line features using the Slingbox.
I gotta get me one of those devices...

A slingbox is a device that connects to your cable (or satellite) provider on one side and to your (outgoing) internet connection on the other. You can use it to "ship" your TV signal over the internet.
It's very useful say you travel a lot. You can connect to your slingbox from your laptop in your hotel room and basically watch your favorite tv programs (read Sens games) wherever you are ...

Just wait till you see "SENS" written across it, diagonally, slanting upwards, from left to right. The concept renditions that I've seen of that 3rd jersey are just awful. It looks like we're celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Super Nintendo (SNES) or something. Awful, awful, awful. Wear a bag on your head if you're at the game when these things are unveiled. I hope they only last one year.
