Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday dear Clutchie
Happy birthday to you
Yes, yes, it (Tuesday) is the annual celebration of the date that our beloved co-founder escaped from that ovarian Bastille. And I could not think of a better present than to star another winning streak.
Ottawa (33-22-4, 2nd in the Northeast and 5th in the Eastern Conference) hosts Calgary (29-21-9, 3rd in the Northwest and 7th in the Western Conference) Tuesday night at SBP. The Sens come home after having their franchise-record-setting winning streak stopped at 11 games by the cross-province rivals.
Calgary has attempted to shake the team out of its doldrums by executing a seven player trade, sending Dion Phaneuf to Toronto, then following up by sending Olli Jokinen to the Rangers. The list of ex-Flames also includes Fredrik Sjostrom, Brandon Prust and prospect Keith Aulie. In return the Flames received Niklas Hagman, Matt Stajan, Ian White, Jamal Mayers, Ales Kotalik and Chris Higgins. A number of the new Flames have contracts that expire at the end of the season. Some saw this as a desperation move by a GM about to lose his job.
At the end of the day, it’s likely the Flames have gotten better (mostly because Phaneuf was not playing up to his potential), but the team still sits precariously 3 points ahead of 9th place Red Wings, with Detroit holding a game in hand.
Let me just say thanks to the guys for giving us a great three weeks and a few new team records to shoot for:
- consecutive wins by team: 11
- consecutive wins by goalie: 9 (Elliott)
- consecutive goal-scoring games: 8 (Spezza, erasing one of Heatley’s records)
(I’m not sure, but is 6 road games also a new record or tying an exiting one?)

Hopefuly we get back on track after the embarassment.
Man do we need foligno and karlsson.
Hope Murray makes some move to shore up the defence-campoli and picard have proven themselves useless.

Well I, for one, wouldn't mind seeing Lee up in place of either Picard or Campoli. You can say Picard is worse till you're blue in the face, but Picard has been sitting for a month. I'm pretty sure Campoli would have regressed sitting out a month, just as I'm sure Picard would have picked up a little confidence along the way if he had been playing. Not that I'm advocating that Lee is a better D-man at this point, but he might try harder or, on the flip side, Picard/Campoli might try harder after sitting out a couple of games.

On the bright side the players should have their ears wide open and ready to listen to Clouston after that last game debacle.

I actually predicted Shannon for the win before the competition and also predicted 15,000 as attendance and was off by 111 I think.

I would make a bad coach. At least when it comes to goalies.
If I was Cory Clouston, I would have had lost my patience early Saturday.
I would have yanked Brian Elliott's Donkey right after Toronto's second goal.

In fairness, I would have yanked Elliott after the 3rd goal - which Clouston basically did. He left him in for the 2nd (Elliott was great), then inexplicably yanked him in the third.
Turns out no matter how good a coach you are, there are always differing opinions on how to handle it when your TEAM doesn't show up. Diddlers.
Don Brennan is shocking bad though, there comes a time when there has to be some changes. I like the hockey coverage in the Sun, but Brennan is 100% a hack. My cat could write better articles than him.
EDIT: For the record, my cat is pretty handy. A handy-cat if you will.

The competition is strictly speed, not how fast they can move relative to their mass.
