Cheechoo is untradeable guys -- he has basically negative trade value.
That buyout will be the best 1 million dollar cap hit X 2 years ever spent.
You really think Melnyk will sign off on another buyout ?? Considering how many buyouts he's still paying I'm inclined to think "No".

I don't know about giving up Shannon for Whitney. Surely Cheechoo I would but Shannon? meh.
Yeah, I thought the same. I like Shannon and unlike Whitney, it's 700K to re-sign him.
I agree. I'd also be reluctant to swap the Deller's 13 points for Whitney's 39 right now.

I do. This team will be better when we have more money to spend on real players.

We're stuck with Cheechoo. Yes he makes a lot but he came by the same 13 points that Shannon has honestly without being a fixture on the PP as Shannon seems to have been.
Cheechoo also is 4th in hits among forwards on the team. He can be useful in that regard in the playoffs, at least.
Is Shannon the better player? I'm not even sure of that. I'm convinced he's a more attractive trade bait than Choochoo for sure.

Yes. He is the better player. Not by much but I would take Shannon on my team any day before Cheechoo. It really does come down to dollars though. I would be shocked if BM didn't buy him out this summer. $3 million is a lot to spend on 13 points

A lot of those players have underachieved this year though.
That's not a strong line of argument. Because they underachieved they still get the benefit of the doubt?

Shannon would be trade bait if he was worth anything in trade. He'd be an afterthought in a trade - someone who gets traded to create roster space. Not more, not less.

If you're a shrewd GM and had done the research on a player like Shannon, then it would be a great piece to acquire. Shannon has the speed, the moves, the 2-way capabilities, everything to be a good part of a top 9. Not to mention that he's signed to a cheap contract and will be looking for the same contract next year I'm sure.
If I was in a position to acquire him and Campoli and a 3rd round or 4th round pick for Whitney - I'd really think about it.

Perhaps, but another way to look at it is a guy who hasn't lived up to his league-minimum contract...no?
He was expected get in the neighborhood of 40 or so points and is currently on pace for about 25. Despite his speed, moves and two-way play, he just hasn't taken the bull by the horns like he needed to and has faltered this year despite being given every opportunity to skate a regular shift and play the PP.
I wonder what kind of stats Chris Kelly would have if he was playing half as much on the PP as Ryan Shannon was.

Modano au New Jersey?

Modano will finish his career in Dallas. I'll try and find the link where Modano himself says this. He does hint that there's an outside chance he would accept a trade, but he thinks it unlikely.

Man, if there was one big acquisition I'd love for the Sens to make it'd be Nieds. Can you imagine how much he'd help Karlsson?
That said, the Ducks aren't exactly out of the playoff picture. They're tied with the Stars for 9th.

I don't think they'll be sellers this year. They are too close to justify it to the fanbase imo.

The Finals? The road to the finals goes straight through Washington. I think even Nieds won't get us to the Finals. And there is no chance I want to part with either of those assets on a rental.

Washington is not unbeatable, if we have Nieds' first pass we can brake their 1st line and make them go defensive. Plus we have Volchie and Philips.

this from EK and holds no ground what so ever. though i find the deal interesting as it would bring us back some interesting pieces.
i'm on the fence on if i'd be happy with this deal i'm not a fan of jumbo and he's only got a year left.

SENS/SHARKS RUMOURED DEAL...
Apparently the Sharks may have interest in reuniting (cause is feels so good) Spezza with Heatley. The Rumored deal may be Joe Thornton, Setaguchi and a prospect for Spezza, Brian Elliott and the rights to Volchenkov (which the Sharks would then move elsewhere).
Again, these are only rumors. I am only reporting what I hear and trying to stay out of the way so you can all debate the finer points...please, no wagering.

The only way the Sharks make that deal is if it *is* "Setaguchi" -- some minor league prospect with no hope of making the NHL.
This is Ek, why are we even wasting finger-taps discussing it?

I think Montreal moving Halak means exactly what it looks like on the surface: that they are anointing Price as their #1. So any rumor about them moving Price after having moved Halak, that do not involve Martin Brodeur and a time machine can be ignored.
