Good deal, he was awesome for them last year.

Re: Blake re-signs with Sharks
A damn good deal. Guy's almost 40 and he still put up 45 points for them in the regular season. Although I'd be a bit concerned that age might start catching up to him. He looked a tad slow in the playoffs.

Honestly, I'm surprised it's a 2-year deal. He may not be as old as Chelly, but still. $9M more? Wow.

Why is that? Cap issues? We can take some salary back.

Who we gonna take back? Marleau? Thornton? Heatley would be totally useless without a center.

I'd be intrigued if Marleau was a part of a package. Only one year on his contract and I've always found him quite good.

Re: Blake re-signs with Sharks
omg, I would stay so far away from Marleau if he was the center piece it isnt funny. 1 year left, then he bolts, no thanks. That just screams bust of a trade.

If he was a throw in for cap reasons I am okay with it. He would have to be a small peice, not the focal point of any trade with the Sharks...

That's what I mean. Ehrhoff would still have to be coming. Or Vlasic or Clowe.

I'd rather stay away from that nonsense. They don't have a high first round pick...and that pretty much precludes them from any trade as far as I'm concerned.

I know they don't...I'm saying that any team that doesn't have a high first round pick shouldn't be on our radar as a trade possibility.

They have a pretty decent 8th overall pick though - Logan Couture.

If they take on Heatley and his $7.5M in a hrinking cap world, they may have some high picks soon.

Might be a good idea to double check the source next time...see Rooney's post.

Dude, do you know how many of these I try to find for GMHockey members early? If I tried to ensure each one was legit, everyone might as well just wait until TSN posts it.
If this isn't true, I apologize.

SpezD--not calling you out
...just reminding you there are lots of rubbish rumours out there.
As for TSN...they're one of the worst sources IMHO.

Says no.
The Bleacher Report still says: yes.
*June,15 Update* This deal is 100% done, Blake has agreed to the contract, but there has not been a pen to paper signing. That is why there is a hold up for official confirmation. I was still not able to get the exact amount he will be making a year.
Note : I would guess the deal is closer to $4 million a year. I will try to find out the exact amount...

Meh... I don't think they're that bad considering all the other rumour mills out there, and they're not really in the business for rumours at any rate. But, they are usually one of the first to report breaking news I do find.

Agree with you on the 'breaking news' part.
But ESPN is much more substantial than TSN as a mainstream media source. Hradek, Burnside and Lebrun trump Dreger and McKenzie IMO.
McKenzie's a puzzling case. He used to be one of the more adventurous hockey journalists; but in the last few years he seems to be acting out the image that's been created for him at TSN as a 'hockey guru'.
Still, when McKenzie does his call-ins with The Healthy Scratches on Team 1200 he seems more relaxed, authoriative without being pushy, as opposed to when he's 'on the set' at TSN.
It seems that TSN has unfortunately decided that glossy packaging makes up for a lack of incisive reporting.

I agree. American is always better.
Funny because TSNs glossiness seemed to come about somewhere around the time they became more ESPNified.

Kinda like McGuire is on TSN versus his spots on TGOR.

Did Lebrun get his start at ESPN? I've always thought of him as a Sportsnet guy, not an ESPN guy.
