Yeah, that was a real shame since he seemed to be getting so much more comfortable and confident.

I suppose you take out Foligno from the bottom line, insert Bass, and put Foligno somewhere on the top-2 lines.

If that doesn't work, sub him in in Vermette's place and put Vermette with Alfredsson and Spezza.

I was thinking that with Vermette.. but honestly I just don't think Vermette deserves it, but then again, who does? the only people i see that deserve anything right now are Fisher and.. well lets just start with Fisher. lol Atleast he always shows up to play, no matter what his numbers are. Foligno has had his shots at the higher lines and tbh, i liked him up there. he didn't have too much time to get into it but i think maybe with a little more ice time with the likes of Alf, Spez, Heat, Fish, etc., he really might be able to pick up the pace.

People can rip on Vermette for not scoring because its justified and rightfully so, but he hasnt been playing awful hockey and leaving people wondering if he is even trying out there.

He usually gets or creates at least one scoring chance a game, wins faceoffs, and kills penalties. Im not saying he doesnt have to produce, he absolutly does, but when someone is struglging offensivly that player has to do other things for the to have a chance, and Vermette does. He has to produce though, 5 points in unacceptable, but thats why Vermette and others get the benifit of the doubt.

If Spezza doesnt produce like he hasnt for more than 50% of the year this year, what good is he?

It would be basically like sitting Sundin, Sakic, or Iginla when the team is playing poorly.

The others, sure, you can make a case for or against, and I would be on the other side of things for the most part, but to suggest Alfie sit, i struggle to find words to describe that.

I must have missed that post, but I must say that it is deeply disturbing that someone wants to sit our captain lol. He may be not fufilling his obligations as captain, because honestly you are given that C to lead your team to victory. and as much as we arent winning, i havent heard too much about alfie still pounding the Dung out of his players.. because they aren't just hartsburg's players.. their alfie's too. and i just think that when your coach fails you, your leader should be right there to pick the team back up. it isn't happening, but that doesn't mean that we sit him lol

Also. Vermette never plays for me again. End of story.

I know you were kidding, but that kind of response in the NHL gets you prime time seats to watch the game. From the pressbox.

Hartsburg is coaching for his job now, he needs to back this up. And it can't be selective. It has to be everyone.
And let's not forget that even Spezza, with all his millions, will still be playing for a new contract way before retirement age. He'll have enough to pay off his $9M house, but that kind of large lifestyle requires continuous large supply of money.

And as for Vemette, he has even less time and much less money.

You dont sit your captain, ever. Its not even as if he isnt playing hard every night, killing penalties and doing his thing for the most part. He was the only one on that line going into the corners, taking the man, digging for the pucks.

Shocked someone would say that to say the least.

The only one there thats even a close to being a logical guy to sit is Heatley.

Vermette has not been very good except on faceoffs. It's not just lack of scoring, he's just not playing well. 10 games ago he was getting lots of chances and just not burying it, but lately he'd been hard to notice on the ice.

I'm not really specificly picking on Vermette, its more everyone that I'm upset at, and if it were possible, to me our first like should be Fisher-Fisher-Fisher (if it were based on work ethic of course lol) but even then we wouldnt score lol. its just tough watching us struggle like this, when we should atleast be in a playoff spot right now. I think we should, others might disagree but i don't see enough problems other than the lack of goals to justify us being in the 12th spot in the conference..

Tallent wise we should be on top of the league, if only hockey were that simple.

It's more the idea process behind sitting guys like Spezza. The captain needs to step up, end of story (as do the rest of the Diddle stiffs).

I actually don't know where everyone got the sit Alfie stuff from. It's pretty obvious what I was trying to say. This whole squad sucks. That includes Alfie, I don't really care what the Dung you do with him. Press box, IR, play. It really doesn't make a whole lot of difference right now, does it.

Doesnt matter if Alfie is missing a leg, you dont sit your captain and leader. No one is saying people dont need to step up, but you sit the guys that need to get the message. People have been SCREAMING for Harstberg to start to hold guys accountable, now he is, and now some people are saying its the wrong guy.

Its not just the fans who see Spezza for what he is right now, its the coach and GM as well. There miiiiiight be something there that the people who defend Spezza want to take a look at.

No one can defend Alfie or Heatley either right now. They've been rancid.

See? Double standards everywhere in Ottawa. Fans, GM, coach, everyone.

Its not defending them, its a matter of sending a message to the guys that need it. Right now the player who is playing with the least amount of effort and desire is Spezza, end of story. The coach is setting a double standard, he is saying what 99% of the people who watch the Sens play know, Spezza needs to step up in a large way.

Alfie and Heatley playing poorly, sure, but Alfie is defently not playing without desire or with a lack of effort, and Heatley hopefully shows that away from that top line that he can dominate. Spezza is on the 3rd line for a reason and would be the right guy to sit if it comes to that. Nothing about a double standard there. Think what you want, but pretty much everyone in the hockey world is callng out Spezza.

Let's hope it all works out Neely. I think it will....but, as you say...you never know.

Again, c'mon Alfie, c'mon Heater, c'mon Spezza...c'mon team?!!

If Spezza's work ethic is not there, he will be on the first thing smoking in the new year. He will have no one to blame but himself.

To be honest, though, I don't think Spezza's gotten this far without caring whether he plays or not.
