Then again, I do like most of Heater's 2-week plan. Especially the 6-month probation contract to Fonzie.

I think you gotta give him more than that don't you? As Murder said how can the team take him seriously if he could be canned at the end of the season anyway?

EDIT: How can this team take ANY coach seriously if there's yet another coach fired?

With a 6-month contract he actually has a pretty decent chance of *not* being fired.

Then why not give him the next year if he's likely going to be around anyway?

I was thinking more boedker and Tikhonov+ a 1st, because I thought Turris would be untouchable.

Eh, Turris would be who I'd target.

It's a moot point anyway, though, since they're already having money troubles. They can't afford a $45 million contract or whatever it is.

I agree with asq2, I don't think that Phoenix would be willing to take on Heatley's salary, especially without giving one up like Jovo's, Doan or Jokinen.

I think Columbus has the pieces to get it done, and the desperation possible to pull the trigger. Filatov, Russel and a 1st would be my asking price. Whether or not Howson pays that price....who knows.

Things I would do:

1. Move Kuba at the deadline for a 1st and a young offensive player/prospect.

2. Move Kelly to a team needing a PK specialist for a pick and prospect. Edmonton could really use him so I would inquire about Alex Plante and hope for a 1st. Plante is doing real well with the Calgary Hitman and could be future top 4.

3. Move Neil, Vermette, and Gerber at the deadline to the highest bidder if possible. I'd be looking for young players and picks.

4. I would see if Fisher, A-train, and Phillips wanted to be moved. If so, I'd put them on the market but I would see if St. Louis, Florida and LA are interested and inquired about O'Sullivan, Horton, Mathias, Berglund, Pietrangelo, and their 1st's. If it was possible I would then see what kind of package could be put together.

**From a defensive side of things I'd only move one of either Phillips or A-train and then re-evaluate after next season with the remaining player as Phillips would have 1 year left and A-train becomes a UFA. As well the defence has under gone a lot of change lately so I would need to try and maintain some stability.**

5. I'd look at offers for Schubert and Vermette.

6. Keep Hartsburg and see what he could do with a young team. If he is unsuccessful by next Xmas then I start to explore other options.

7. I'd also explore trade offers for Spezza leading up to the draft. If there was nothing that really blew my mind away then Spezza is staying put.

8. Depending on who much money I have in the off season I would really look at upgrading my goaltending, 3rd and 4th lines. I would see what Bouwmeester was asking for and hope that based on the turn over on D he might be interested in coming to city that loves its hockey and where he could major contributor for years to come. Andy McDonald would also be another player I would look at to fill out my lines.

9. I'd continue to improve the baby sens by targeting undrafted players and college players.

10. Not sure if its possible but I would add another scout or two to continue to find those diamond in the roughs.

11. At the draft if I have the resources I would try to acquire another top 10 pick but prefer to get a top 5. Depending on the above trades I would like to get some more 2nd rounders. At the draft I would trade a balance of offence, defence, and goalie prospects.

12. I would also try and either trade for at the deadline or sign a quality goalie in the off season. Depending on what happensI would go into next season with Elliott, Auld and ???. Auld could always be traded during next season pending the play of Elliott.

Ottawa has assets to make a trade deadline day very interesting and could rebuild the team quickly with quality youth if patience is practiced in the deal making while building around Spezza (if not moved), Heater, and Alfie. The boys on the farm would be given every opportunity to make the big team next fall.

You've got 12 things on your to-do list. Realistically, what do you feel the odds are that you could get half of them done?

I agree with most of your list, but I don't think the Oil would be interested in giving up the equivalent of 2 first rounders for Chris Kelly, and I certainly can't see any of the players in the LA/Florida list moving, nor their firsts.

If there is one player i would want teaching Foligno, it would be Doan; and if Howson would do that, I would force Heatley to waive.

Yup, Since its spread over time with some things that are purely in the control of the GM. Like keeping Harts and adding to the scouting staff.

Yes, at gunpoint if need be. :lol!:

Doan is Phoenix' captain.

I don't think they'd get rid of him.

Also, I'm not sure he's better than Heatley. Certainly in terms of an all-around game, but offensively?

I didn't mean Doan. I'd only take Doan for Heatley if he's coming over with Yandle or Boedker.

I was refering to the previous comment of Howson making the deal, meaning the BJ's.
