I wouldn't touch J-Bo if I was Detroit. The summer after next has a bounty of D to start looking at, but realistically Lidstrom has another 3 Norris seasons left before he declines. They have plenty of time IMO.

I say that if they can lock him in for a decent cap hit, they should. Their defense would be capable of scoring more than our entire team will this year.
As an Ottawa fan, I'd be pissed because I want him here on our blue line, but it'd be good for the Wings.

Define a decent cap hit. This is the chance of Bouwmeester's life - right here - right now. It's probably the only time he'll ever be up for UFA status with a bunch of nobodys in his class. He'll be literally the most sought after player in the last 5+ years. This time he's better than Campbell, there's no Boyle on the market right now. The next best D might be Ohlund. I don't support players cashing in, but this is his time to take a 8 X 8 package with pretty much any team on the cusp (here please!) and get paid.

Or he could leave 2 million per year on the table and sign a 6 million per year with Detroit if he really wants. His agent will beg him not to though.

From what I have seen of Bouwmeester, winning is more important than money. He already said no to a major offer from the Panthers. If there's any truth to the Detroit rumour...JayBo will be a Wing. And the heir to Lidstrom.

The latter is what I'm figuring.
He'll get about $100K per Stanley Cup run as a bonus, no? (not much when you're talking 6x6-8, but still)
And his longevity may be increased by being on a team where he isn't playing 25-30 hard min per game (they have more talent to spread the time over). Thus he has longer to earn the big bucks without being injured.

Problem with trading Jbo is, Florida has a good enough team to make the playoffs.

Florida has to trade Bouwmeester at the deadline, as I have been told, regardless of position. The best time to trade is March and they must trade him or lose him for nothing.

They can still sign him after the trade deadline can't they? Unlikely scenario, but it's there. If they don't move him before March 4th @ 3:00pm EST, he'll be gone for nothing like Redden...

He will not re-sign in Florida, regardless of their outcome. He has made that clear. He has turned down big money from them apparently.

The two players I want out of Florida and on my team are him and Horton.

J-Bo is unlikely - he wants a contender.
    Horton would be awesome.

Martin doesn't need to trade Horton, who is under contract for 4 or 5 more years I think.

But he might become restless on a team that is unloading it's star talent. And it will be hard to attract players to a team that does that.

Im not suggesting Ottawa has a shot at either, just that if I am a GM in the NHL, thsoe are two players I will target.

Anyway, this team is going nowhere. Until that sh*t they call CORE players starts to play like professionals, I dont want to sign any UFA that could potentially implode in that freaking mess.

There are so many deadline scenarios...whew...

    The following are for sale:

Chris Neil (huge amounts of interest apparently), Kuba (yay, bye-bye), Picard, Lee, Jason Smith, Chris Phillips (waive your NTC or we'll Diddle waive you), Vermette, Fisher (waive it Fisher, or when it becomes a limited NTC we'll ship your arse somewhere you don't want to be), Chris Kelly (a good solid waiving wouldn't hurt either), McAmmond (sorry little man, you have to go now), Donovan (hmmm...draft pick? 6th round? I'll think on it).

Spezza and Heatley - you're on notice. You better blow Murray away in the next 4 weeks, or you'll be need some change of address forms.

Did I miss any of the 'tards?

Then we'll suck until someone realizes that these are all scrubs - or that careers have gone ridin' into the sunset (Phillips).

Vermette is okay, but I wouldn't trust him to be a consistent 2nd line performer, Kelly sucks and is wholly unnecessary and Fisher is overpaid and sucks (unless he turns into Brendan Morrow on the wing).

    Get out of town commies!

I dont know if I'd be so quick to move Picard. He obviously has potential, and isnt a cap issue.

    and you missed Schubert :D

Oh yeah...Schubert. But I like his work ethic and he'll get you nothing on the market.
