The fries come with a steak.

Vineyards - right below the Fish Market.

Thank you for bringing that up. I didn't want to mention it out of fear that I was being insensitive or something... But since you brought it up, i don't have to worry about it.

    It's my wife's mother. Smile

It's just a creepy pic of a ghoulish looking lady. I loved it when I first saw it because it reminded me of a character David Lynch would cast in one his flicks.

Interesting. I've been trying to figure out if that was a real person or not in the background - looked like a mannequin to me at first...

    Creepy and ghoulish indeed.

Vineyards - do they still do the wine testing "flights"? They also used to have an insane number of imported beers and scotches.

I recall going there after classes when I went to Ottawa U. In fact, a bunch of us basically lived there Monday nights. (why Mondays, I have no idea.)

Great alternative was Coasters upstairs from the Fish Market - could go there to get all the fried food you needed first, then go down to try all the different types of beer or wine you felt like.

This thread is making me hungry Smile

I have many places that I like to eat and it mostly depends on how I'm feeling.

    For Example for Shawarma:
Maroush if your drinking (ask to see "the pictures" Smile )
Really Lebanese if your hungover (only go to the one in Orleans)
Palace on Rideau (by the Desjardins Bank) any other time.

In terms of Pizza, there are a number of good places around town but the best "all-around" pizza (in that everyone will be satisfied) is without a doubt Gabriel's.

I generally try to eat a non-chain restaurants as the food is generally much better and much cheaper; Mom and Pops for the win!

There are only two places I cannot stand:
1)Mexicali Rosa's - watered down salsa and food is Dung
    2) Moxie's - I hate the "fake-classy" atmosphere that they try to portray and the food realy isn't any better than kelsey's, etc... Here in Calgary, Moxie's are like Denny's in that they are everywhere and this may contribute to my feeling of hate towards Ottawa Moxie's.

No love for the Moxie's? I like Moxie's both here in Toronto and in Ottawa, but I've only had one thing there to be honest - the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich. It's not a bad sandwich

Anyone remember Peter's Pantry in Ottawa on Richmond? I remember their gorgeous waitresses as having some of the shortest skirts in town... and the pizza was pretty good too. Not sure if it's still around or has the same... flair.

    Heh heh.

Moxie's is sweet. Food is fine. I actually like the atmosphere and the talent scout in charge of hiring wait staff is top drawer...

Heh. Should we start a "Favourite fast food joints" thread? Or a "Places I shouldn't eat at... but do anyway" thread?

True enough. Where does Ponderosa fit in?

We must have crossed paths a number of times. My mom and dad would often take me out for dinner at Peter's Pantry. The waitresses wore short skirts with tassels. They reminded me of GoGo girls or Flappers? It was a bit of a time warp going in there. They had old pics of gangsters and news stories on the tables. It was pretty good.

Classic. I remember them as being one of the first places to put newspaper articles up in front of the urinals to give you something to read.

If Melnyk gets his stadium, think we could convince him to put in a section of restaurants "for the guys"? - Moxies, Peter's Pantry, ...

    Maybe a petition...?

Shabbs: who had parents that took them to Peter's Pantry? I'm jealous.

Apparently strachattack's did - mine certainly didn't. Jealous indeed.

I wouldn't know if they are still open, but on Friday's after school, my old man would pick me up and we'd stop by Fred's (this dingy probably-not-even-close-to-being-up-to-code) Fries in Stittsville, right on the main drag, and we'd score a couple of large fries... My god they were good.

And I remember a spot in Bells Corners that was once where East Side Mario's was, Malibu Jacks! That was an awesome spot.

However, since it's been almost 6 years since I last returned 'home,' I'm sure a LOT has changed since.

Oh, is the Mayflower still open? We used to stop there for brunch or a late breakfast after a morning of skating on the Canal?
