Just three shots on goal for the Caps in Period Two with five minutes left.

Green and Ovechkin just look awful...just horribly awful.

The Caps are sleepwalking this afternoon.

Nothing in terms of offense. Six shots in period two.

Give the Rangers credit. They are outskating and outhustling Washington so far..and taking away all the space from the Caps' attackers. New York's checking is incredibly frustrating.

I agree...but if you're Ovechkin and Green, you need to get something going. His efforts on the powerplay at the end of the period were just rubbish. Turnover after turnover after turnover, what are his teammates supposed to do?

We've seen it many times before...high scoring superstars blanketed by a stifling defense.

Ovie and Green have twenty minutes to right the ship. If the Caps go down 0-2 in the series, they can start polishing the golf clubs...

Forgot to check the schedules, didn't even know this game was on. Are they at least getting a good effort from the goalie? Imagine if they could get 15 saves on the first 16 shots from Theodore, they would have won game 1.

Varlamov has been OK.

If the Caps don't get it going on this powerplay, this could be the beginning of the end.

Too much screwing around by the Caps and the Rangers kill the penalty.

Lundqvist has been brilliant so far.

Semin takes a dumbass penalty in the offensive zone.

RANGERS WIN.

1-0...a breathtaking performance by Lundqvist.

...as the Caps totter towards the edge...

Wow. Their chance was in game 1 and Theodore blew it. How much longer do they have to pay him?

Can't blame the goalie if they can't score.

This goose egg makes all the Caps look pretty bad.

Must be some nice golf weather in Washington...the boys won't have to wait long if they play like this in New York.

WASHINGTON -- A surprising switch to a rookie goalie did not prevent Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals from losing 1-0 and falling into a two-game hole against the New York Rangers.

Then again, if New York and Henrik Lundqvist keep silencing Ovechkin, it might not matter who's in the net for Washington.

Ryan Callahan spoiled Simeon Varlamov's NHL postseason debut by scoring on New York's second shot Saturday, and Lundqvist made 35 saves, leading the seventh-seeded Rangers to the victory over the second-seeded Capitals and a 2-0 lead in their first-round playoff series.

It was Lundqvist's third career playoff shutout.

Game 3 is Monday in New York, and Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau will have to decide whether to stick with Varlamov or go back to Jose Theodore.

I was talking about the first game. Henrik stole the one today, but they could have had the first one if not for Theodore.

Well, doesn't matter now...Washington will have to try and get it together at Madison Square Garden.

Something tells me this one is over. Boudreau could have possibly been able to pull this on out of the bag against Renney, but not Fonzie. Aaaaayyyy!
