Heatley not attending Spezza's wedding?

"The plot thickens,,, Heatley backs out of Spezza's wedding. He is really seperating himself from his teamates. He will be 100% gone. I think something will get done by August. Hard to say if it will be Edmonton,San Jose or Minnesota."

I moved this here because it's a big story. In my POV it almost ensures that Heatley is moved by Opening Night. And I think it's gonna be to Edmonton after all. They just sent him some sort of video ( :blah: ) about how fun it would be to play in Edmonton. Just a gut feeling, but I think he's leaving.

now i am by no means defending heatley but where spez has come out and said he did not want it to be made into a media spectacle heatley may have did a move so more he doesnt have to confront the media and spez can have his day a little more private.....i am purely speculating and i have my doubts heatley is doing anything to help anyone but hisself at this point and i do agree he will be gone by training camp

Was gonna post this in other thread, but there is more to this than Keeping and the Sun are telling.

I'm sorry for not saying more but because of the nature of the event (Spezza's very "public" wedding), I really don't feel comfortable posting it, till after the wedding is done.

It fits into the same situation where I didn't and won't post even the location and time of Spezza's wedding on HB. (Not that it's hard to find out)

But there is 2 different stories coming out regarding Heatley's attendance / Spezza's wedding.

Inretrospect I probably shouldn't have posted anything, to avoid confusion

First, SD, I somewhat disagree. Heatley announcing he will not attend is a positive step w.r.t. Spezza and the rest of the team. He is actually mending some fences here, not erecting new ones.

Second, the wedding is at the Notre Dame basilica (used to work just around the corner on Guiges). Their website (http://notredameottawa.com/) states that marriages will be celebrated at 12, 1:30, 3 and 6:30. Spezza could afford to book all four slots if he wanted. I'll take a wild stab and say some fairly long telephoto lenses will be seen around the front of the National Art Gallery starting around, ooh, 11AM. If it was my choice, I'd pick the 3PM slot -- enough time to recover from lunch (I remember for mine I didn't want anything for lunch excpe t maybe some jello, so my future brother in law took me to a smoke meat place); and enough time for the ceremony and pictures, without making guests wait too long to eat (ours was at 1, and our poor flower girl was exhausted, hungry and tired well before the hors d'ouvres arrived -- yes, we had McDonalds wrappers at our reception).

Third, Mark, you're beginning to sound just like Keving did at times. If you've got something to say, say it. If not, well, don't tantalize us by saying that you know something but can't really tell us, except that you pretty much are giving it away anyway -- Heatley publicly says he's not coming, but he's probably coming in secret.

I think that the two of them probably decided it's best he doesn't come because of all the attention on the situation.

I wouldn't view this as a conspiracy, but rather a smart gesture on his part to not take away from the big day of Spezza.

I just don't see any possible way they let him stay in Ottawa to start the year. Everytime he appears anywhere, he's going to be hounded by media. Everytime he goes to get groceries, he's going to be hounded by media. Everytime he ties his laces up, he's going to be hounded by media. If he scratches his ear, he's going to be hounded by media.

It's just going to be ridiculous.

I 100% agree. He's making the situation worse for himself.

If the Oilers pul their deal off the table, he's stuck here in Ottawa. Then we'll have to wait until camp opens and be stuck with $7 million in extra cap to sign any unsigned free agents - which will be none.

Is there no way the team can file a grievance against him?

Heatley can't really say anything to the public to make the situation better. If he speaks out and says things were not working out in Ottawa and he needed to move in a different direction etc... and then Murray can't move him and he's back in Ottawa, it's just more bad crap.

I think he should be talking with Alfie, Murray and Melnyk at the very least and at least saying something to them privately.

If there's more to this than meets the eye... then it will have to come out after he's moved.

It's just better for everyone that he doesn't attend. Or maybe say that he'll not attend and secretly go.

Heatley doesn't want to speak to the media I guess and probably doesn't wants to avoid some of the guests. A situation he made awkward for himself

I'm hoping that is the case and that Heatley called Spezza directly to get the "OK" from him and to explain his motivation.

Maybe it was Spezza who called Heatley and asked him not to come. For fear of turning it into a media circus of the wrong kind.

Max Keeping seems to be at the centre of all this. Maybe someone from Spezza's camp told Max Keeping who, in turn, contacted Heatley's agents to tell Heatley not to go.

Or maybe Heatley knew the bartender at the Casino in Hull, called him up to give the message to Max Keeping that he wouldn't be attending the Spezza wedding.

Hah if that was true, Heatley wouldn't have gone to his bachelor party nor would he have been invited to the wedding,

Who's to say he doesn't show up and this is just to throw the media off their game?

I don't know if those rumours are more sad or pathetic. The whole story is that the media will not leave Heatley alone and he didn't want to ruin his friend's wedding.

Btw isn't Vermette getting married this summer too or is he not inviting his old Sens pals :p

I don't believe it personally but it has Heatley getting caught fooling around with a team mates better half. First iteration had it happening with Spezza fiance and the wedding getting called off (this due to a change in the salon doing the hair for the women).

The second iteration has it having to do with one of the other players (not married). Personally I don't believe it, but rather Spezza asked his friend to either address the press before to not make it into a media circus or to stay away. In fact I've heard through the gossip grapevine that Spezza's bride to be was so upset at the thought of her day being a media circus due to the Heatly thing she demanced Jason call him and tell him to stay home.

Either way it's a good thing for the couple getting married that he's staying away.

well I am sure any woman has a lot of influence on certain things in her mate's life, but to extend to the point where she gets Heatley to go to Edmonton, that would take some extra special attention (I call it nagging) lol.

I wouldn't be surprised if Heater did mess around with one of his team mates girls, I remember there was a big rumour coming from Philly that Lindros banged Brind'amour's wife.

Vermette got married two weekends ago. I believe it was in Quebec City.

Heatley didn't sleep with any of his teammates girlfriends, atleast while they were dating them.

Anyways....the KLee comparison, come on really, because i have computer issues?

I agree I should have just kept quiet till after the wedding, but KLee references are uncalled for.

I heard the same. I can't believe someone else heard this. The guy who told me I laughed at. I basically said that all the was being blown WAY out of proportion.

I don't know what to say...I heard the same. He diddled someone's wife on the team according to rumours.

ah please don't take SSF to heart, he is only being a pain in the butt, but he is our pain in the butt and we wouldn't have it any other way he he. you learned your lesson with the information you posted earlier then retracted on, am sure it's not that you don't want to tell us, it's just too soon and that information could cause some damage, I respect that, I am sure others do as well.
