I don't care about the points he's putting to be honest, he's not there to compete with Joe Thornton. I could say that the reason he doesn't put up huge numbers is because he plays on the 3rd worst team in the league in goals scored (still leads thet eam in points), but as I said, he's there to provide other dimensions, and he has chemistry with crosby as well as a WJC gold medal.

The fact is, he is 1st unit on the best PK team in the NHL, and it's not everybody on Team Canada that will provide that intangible.

So chemistry with Crosby and PK is what Bergeron is on the team for? I hope that isn't true, otherwise there are issues. There are plenty of people on the team who can play PK, and in fact do. Bergeron is a good player, but I still question his place on this team.

No, but it`s one thing he has that Mike Fisher doesn't, and it is enough. Also won a GOld medal on a line with Crosby. If you guys think chemistry isn't important, well, why do you think they have Getzlaf and Perry there, along with the entire SJ line, Keith and Seabrook. Do you guys think Seabrook is a better player than Bouwmeester? No chance. But he has chemistry with Keith.
You guys seriously underestimate the importance of winning it all at an international level. Mike FIsher has been on a Stanley cup final series, and he lost. The entire Team Canada staff thinks it is a big deal to have that experience, and sorry but I trust them more than fans on the internet.

Yeah, the more I read about it on the net, the more it seems like a pretty solid move. They're quite close, they went through a version of it before, Bergeron can win faceoffs like no one's business, he can score, PK. It's starting to make a little more sense. But if he's on the team, then Staal is the one who should have been sacrificed, not Martin St.Louis. I will never understand just why they left him off this roster. No idea. I assume he'll be on it when all is said and done and there's an injury.

Yeah I would have taken St-Louis over 1 or 2 guys for sure, but when you look at it, the team is composed by either an elite player, some guys with chemistry, or face/offs-defensive specialists. Unfortunately for him He didn't fit in either category, at least according to them.

Staal is another story. Won a Stanley cup and is crazy good when in Pressure situations. Was, IMO the best forward in camp also.

The talk seems to centre around Fisher and St. Louis not being named to the team, but what about Shane Doan? He can do it all and has been there before and captained various Canadian teams. He's a guy I'd rather see than Bergeron.

Fisher can finally be put to rest when it comes to the Olympics. I said before he had a chance if 9 players broke their necks. That didn't happen so neither did Vancouver for Fisher. He really wasn't an option. It was very clear to most including myself.

Other than that, the team could have used Green on D. If you pick so many two-way forwards, you can afford to stretch a bit on D. Green is only reckless because Boudreau asks him to be. With 5 minutes left in the game Green becomes defensively responsible. No st.louis or stamkos, wow but ok. Get er done boys.

Don't worry cloverleaf you'll get to be annoyed for a while longer yet - As each injury occurs on the way towards the start of the Games you'll hear about Fisher.

Enjoy!

Doan *has had* a long and storied international career but, perhaps, his best years are behind him.

Cloverleaf, why are you being such a dweeb? You are coming on here with *nothing* substantive to add to the discussion other than he wasn't an option? Who told you that? It was discussed here on local radio -- sure, that doesn't mean much, since it's local; it was discussed on Montreal radio as well; it was discussed on HNIC; it was discussed by the likes of McKenzie in print on on the web.

He clearly *was* an option, although not as high on the list as some of us may have been hoping for. And some of us (me, for one) still think he got jobbed a bit as Yzerman picked based on history and hope rather than current level of play.

It certainly didn't help that the Sens ran into injury problems -- who knows what the selection committee would have done if Fisher had another 5-10 points and the PK was running at the same level it did early on in the season.

Anyhow, when I (and others) argue that Fisher should have been selected we point out a few things:
- stats-wise (offensive stats, face off stats, hits/blocked shots, PIMs) he is ahead of several Team Canada picks
- hoping that one player breaks out of a half-season slump is one thing; hoping that many players do that it dangerous
- many picks are from non-playoff teams
- many picks are from underachieving teams
- only two picks are from Canadian based teams (sure, this is not a hockey-related point)

We state our position, express our reasons for it, back it up with facts.

You come here gloating that Fisher never was even considered because 9 players didn't break their necks.

Weak.

Are you really suggesting that Stamkos is defensively responsible to the point of calling it "wow"? Look, I'm not knocking him because he's just a kid and will probably get better, but there's a reason why he's the team's 4th ranked center in short-handed TOI/game.

He was also mentioned and discussed by Duthie and McKenzie right before the selection and right after it... Now I know TSN is off the grid and no one really watches it anyways, but I think a few people had him on the radar Team Canada roster -- Fisher got jobbed - Page 17 105237

Can someone explain to me how the hell Kypreos is part of the Olympic broadcast team and Kouleas is nowhere to be seen? That's pathetic. CTV should be embarassed.

Nick Kypreos made a second Canadian team and it looks pretty good. Scary how deep Canada is. Tried to type it down as I saw it, so hopefully I get this right, or get as many as I can remember.

Cammalleri, Savard, Carter, Lecavalier, B.Richards, St.Louis, Doan, Sharp, Fisher, Smyth, Stamkos*

Phaneuf, Bowumeester, Robidas, Green, Burns, Campbell

Roloson, Ward, Mason (not sure on the goalies really)

I love Stevie Y and all but I am concerned that there was a Western Conference bias on the selections. Yzerman and Babc0ck see western teams mostly and I think had their minds made up. Here are the numbers, you tell me...

Forwards

9 Western Conference
4 Eastern Conference

Defence

6 Western Conference
1 Eastern Conference

Goalies

1 Western Conference
2 Eastern Conference

Total

16 Western Conference
7 Eastern Conference

...and I don't buy that crap about the West being stronger, that is bull. The teams lie in wait for Eastern teams and play them at 10-10:30 PM (for us) 7-7:30 PM for them. When West comes East, it is just like playing afternoon games, no big deal. That skews the stats.
