Maybe McKenzie's tweets have more pull than any of us imagined. He was the first one to say that he will get 5 or more.

The real test for The NHL will come when a player of somewhat higher stature makes a similar offense. Is this going to be consistant or just another guessing game for fans to play. Kind of like what we did today.

More realistically, they have a big wheel in the office and whatever number it lands on is the suspension.

Did they though? I fail to see how Ovechking and Lapierre's hits were less dangerous or severe then this one. Campbell needs to go. Literally they just come up with random games for certain players. Wisniewski is a no one so they "made an example". Still, this is a perfect example of different rules for different guys.

I agree with the suspension but that was no worse then a couple hits we saw in the past couple weeks. The NHL is a joke in this sense.

I voted 5 games, because I'm getting tired of seeing players having to defend themselves because they laid a big legal hit on someone. Coming from where he was just to deliver a hit like that looks absolutely stupid to me. if that's not an intent to injure I don't know what is.
If you want to retaliate, wait for your opportunity and give a big legal hit like the one your teammate got.
I like the decision, it's based on the players intentions and not the result of the hit injury wise.

Like I said, they got this right. Forget anything that happened in the last week. I would have sent Ovechkin out for 5 and Lapierre for at least as much. I just hope this suspension is a new standard, not a blip.

I think it is impossible to tell, Wisniewski is a nobody and is easy to suspend. Lets see what they do next time with a bigger name because to me this just wreaks of using a lesser name as an example for some of the things that have gone on. I'll judge them based on the next suspension.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

This has to have set a precedent and sent a clear message that from here on out, you do something stupid like that, you pay the price. Plus, imagine Campbell with all the Dung he's put up with this week - agree with it or not - and imagine him seeing the footage of this hit. He would have sighed relief, there's no gray area here, big suspension, no one will disagree and the NHL will look like they punish their criminals.

The real truth will lie in what they do from here on in. Keep it up please.

For the record, I think they gave him too much. Laugh1 Should have been a stiff 5 games, but 8 is a little much. Better than nothing though.

The NHL went overboard with this suspension IMO, but hey, who the hell knows what this is based on... hopefully it does indeed set a precedent, otherwise this is just a stupid subject that kept us busy for a day or two.

Not like this gives Campbell any credability anyways. IMO this is just a stupid length of suspension given to a no name to show that they have "the balls" to suspend someone for any length of time. No one else should think differently.

I don't see how they'll get away from this being THE precedent on this type of hit. Guys like Bob Mac will start to really put pressure on the NHL if they waiver from this.

Matt Cooke: 0 games and madness ensues

Wisniewski: 8 games

This league is a joke sometimes. Thanks god I have NCAA to keep my mind off things for a bit.

I just saw the hit, and it wasn't anything out of the ordinary, except that Seabrook did not have the puck. Wiz apologized immediately and feels bad because he and Seabrook go way back to when they were teammates in CHI. Wiz thought Seabrook played the puck. And Quenneville was out of line calling it the worst in the history of the NHL.

EDIT: Yeah, I see now he left his feet. That's not good. That makes you wonder a little more.

I look at it the same way others are, it's the Grand Slam:

1.Charging - Debatable, he stopped moving his feet and was cruising in

2.Interference - Yes

3.Boarding - None at all, Seabrook was on the boards, couple inches away at most

4.Intent to injure/pre-meditated - Send a message maybe, but these guys are real good friends and Wiz wouldnt hurt him on purpose

BONUS: he leaves his feet + the hit is high - Barely leaves his feet, I say it's momentum, and yes the hit is high

5 games.

I'm prepared to say that there is atleast 1 hit that is worse than that every night in the NHL. This is just colin Campbell covering his own butt after the botched Cooke situation.

Speaking of Cooke, anyone see him get his butt handed to him by Thornton? Kudos to Cooke for stepping up even though he knew he would get levelled though.

8 games is more than I expected but it's nice to see a message being sent, regardless of the who, what, when, where, why.

The Wis is a victim of timing here imo. The league has just finished meeting with the GMs to try and curb headshots and other dangerous hits, so this to me seems like a suspension based on bad timing for Wisniewski rather than the actual incident (which is inexcusable regardless). I read on tsn today that the league has sent out DVDs to each team highlighting what will (we'll see I guess) not be tolerated any longer.

This is MAYBE a warning shot, the message will be sent next time someone does something similar no matter their status. Personally, I dont buy what The NHL and Campbell is selling.

You also didn't mention Wisniewski skating in from CENTRE ICE to deliver this hit. I don't care if it wasn't charging in the sense that he stopped skating as he approached, it's still predatory imo, and that's the real problem.

Seabrook was completely out while still on his feet. There is no way he gets knocked out like that without a direct impact to the head, and a really bad one at that.

Yes, Seabrooke went down like he just got TKOd, but I have seen worse. It is unfortunate for sure. I guess the video I saw didn't really show how bad it was.
