This translated article over @ Kuklas' mentions the neck was broken. The Democrat and Chronicle says "injured".

Yikes, broken and injured are two different things, when it comes to vertebrae.

Good to know that he's not paralyzed though.

i thought he was playing in the KHL?
it's too bad cuz i think he's still capable of playing the NHL. not for that money though.

I just saw on Twitter that Kovalchuk may have missed a meeting which is why he was scratched two games ago. Ex-NHLer Bobby Holik said he wouldn't be surprised if that was the case since he can attest to what happened in Atlanta (guessing he is saying Ilya missed a lot of meetings in Georgia).

I heard that, but still, take him aside and get it straightened out off ice - or sick Lou on him, no? This is your job at stake if you're the coach.
