If Filatov even becomes a legit 2nd line winger, maybe a 25-25 guy, that 3rd round pick is beyond a steal.

Other than a brief stint in Moscow a couple years ago, he's been in NA since his draft year. He'll be in the NHL next year. We don't have any other prospect with as much offensive skill and potential as this kid. If he isn't on the OSens for all of 11-12, I would be pretty surprised.

I think this means that we're not picking up any players up front on July 1. I have to think that if we trade for Filatov, we're hoping to slot him in right away.

A coach like MacLean, a team that is in a rebuild, a group of players that are learning, a strong group of vets... perfect situation for Filatov. There is a reason why Col has basically no 1st rounders in their lineup besides Nash now.

Man, we are going to be an amazingly young team in 3 years...

Spezza is going to be able to give that kid so much space. He does need to learn how play a harder game, otherwise he won't make it. That's just the way it is right now.

He wasn't given a fair shake in Columbus at all though.

LWer, too... he's going to get every chance to stick in the top 6.

There is just absolutely zero risk to that move. It's like the Anderson trade, what did you actually give up? Nothing.

If he gets a chance to play with Alfi and Spezza...? Do you realize what he could do with that with the talent he has?

I think you can pretty much guarantee now that Gonchar will be here until the end of his contract (unless we suck in the 3rd year and he get traded at the deadline). If he can bring out the best in this kid like he was said to do with Malkin, we could have just acquired a 1st line player for a 3rd round pick.

Agreed.

I mean, we chose Z, Noesen, Puempel and Prince before the 66th selection anyway. Laugh1

You can afford to take a risk like that after adding four high quality forwards.

This makes up, for me, for passing on a high risk / reward guy in the late 1st round. The Filatov move is exactly that, but it cost us our 3rd instead of our 1st.

What an amazing 24 hours it's been for OTT.

Even if Filatov has attitude problems, can't cut it, busts, w/e else, The Sens can send him packing without any kind of back lash from fan, ownership, w/e else.

Columbus wanted nothing to do with him clearly, doesn't mean he is a lost cause.

$2.1 mil cap hit on Filatov, last year in his ELC.

This is going to be such an exciting young team to follow this year. It will be the first time in a long time when we might actually have a few young players break out and redefine this team -- Butler, Filatov, Cowen/Rundblad, maybe Foligno, Regin.

What a great feeling today.

What's his status now ? Is he in the KHL ?

I keep reading about some agreement he got with the KHL but then I recall him and his agent saying he wants to play in NA.

Will he even come to training camp ?

With his pedigree, I say put him with Spezza or Alfie (or both) for 10-20 games and see what you get. Filatov himself must know that this trade means that his own perceived value is falling, and that his chances of sticking in the NHL are shrinking.

He will either sink or swim, and that first month or two is going to be key.

The Sens can offer him a chance to play on the top 2 lines with a ton of support, for sure he is coming back.

There is just no chance he doesn't give it a shot in Ottawa.

Ottawa has a ton of character with guys like Alfi, Phillips, Greening, Smith, they will keep the kid in check and show him what he needs to do. No one in Columbus has any idea what to do.
