Game Day - Ottawa @ Boston, 7:00PM, Tuesday, November 1, 2011 Nhl_5310

It's a Northeast rival division battle tonight in a reversal of fortune it seems as the defending Stanley Cup champions have a lowly 3 wins while the self-proclaimed rebuilding Senators who finished 26th in the league currently have home ice advantage in round 1, were it to start today.

The problem, for Boston, is clearly a lack of offense, as they have only 2 players in the list of top-100 scorers (Lucic is at #97, Seguin is at #30). By comparison, the Sens have 3 of the top 11 (Spezza, Michalek and Karlsson). And while the Sens boast league-worst (or close) numbers in goals allowed, penalty kill percentage, and goal differential, it should be noted that those numbers are quite different between the first size games, and their last six.

Boston(3-7-0)

5th in the Northeast

Team Leaders:

Goals: Tyler Seguin (4)
Assists: Tyler Seguin (6)
Points: Tyler Seguin (10)
+/-: Tyler Seguin (7)
PIMs: Zdeno Chara/Brad Marchand (29)

Dash's Players-to-Watch:

Zdeno Chara has 19 points (8-11) in 44 career games vs his former team. Eight of those points (3-5) came on the man advantage, and 2 goals have been short-handed. He has also amassed 48 minutes in penalties, has 17 hits and 11 blocked shots.

Tyler Seguin has 4 points (2-2) in 6 meetings with the Sens. In his sophomore season he leads the team in goals and assists. He has 5 points in his last 5 games.

Starting Line-up:

Brad Marchand - Patrice Bergeron - Tyler Seguin
Milan Lucic - David Krejci - Nathan Horton
Jordan Caron - Chris Kelly - Rich Peverley
Daniel Paille - Gregory Campbell - Shawn Thornton

Zdeno Chara - Dennis Seidenberg
Andrew Ference - Johnny Boychuk
Joe Corvo - Adam McQuaid

Tim Thomas
Tuuka Rask

Injuries:

Marc Savard

Ottawa (7-5-0)

Ottawa (2nd in the Northeast) is on a 6 game win streak, their latest a 3-2 home win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Kaspars Daugavins' first NHL goal was also the game winner. Following the game, the Senators returned Daugavins to Binghamton for dental surgery, his status for tonight is unknown.

Team Leaders:

Goals: Milan Michalek (7)
Assists: Erik Karlsson (12)
Points: Jason Spezza (15)
+/-: Peter Regin ()
PIMs: Zenon Konopka (49)

Dash's Players-to-Watch:

Erik Karlsson only has 1 point (a goal) vs. Boston in 11 games, and is -4. But he leads the team and league in assists (12) and is on a 3 game point streak (4 assists).

Jason Spezza has 37 (15-22) and is a -4 in 43 career games vs. the Bruins. He leads the Sens in points and saw a 6-game point streak end against the Leafs in which he had 11 points (6-5) and he also had a 4-game goal streak in the first 4 games of the run.

Starting Line-up:

Colin Greening - Jason Spezza - Milan Michalek
Nick Foligno - Stephane Da Costa - Bobby Butler
Erik Condra - Zack Smith - Chris Neil
Nikita Filatov - Jesse Winchester - Zenon Konopka

Chris Phillips - David Rundblad
Filip Kuba - Erik Karlsson
Sergei Gonchar - Jared Cowen

Craig Anderson
Robin Lehner

Injuries:

Alex Auld, Daniel Alfredsson, Matt Carkner, Peter Regin

I'm assuming it'll be Tim Thomas in goal for the Bs.

On another note, it'll be wonderful to not have to hear the random, meandering, pointless, early-onset-alzheimer's colour commentary from Denis Potvin.

I did some minor editing, finished that hanging sentence.

I doubt Daug will play tonight if he got 4 wisdom teeth removed. I had two done, once, and I played that night (beer-league calibre) and then played in a brass band rehearsal the next day, but it was a straight extraction -- none of them were impacted. If he's getting all four pulled and any of them require surgery I don't think he'll be in any condition to play tonight.

Edit: Joy just tweeted that he's in the stands holding a bag of ice to his mouth/jaw. So he's definitely not playing tonight (unless it's in Bingo). Expect Konopka to replace him.

I moved Filatov up to the third line to replace Daugavins on the left, and insert Konopka on the fourth line. That's just my guess.

If Filatov gets more than 4th line minutes I really hope he gets a goal. He badly needs one.

I'll take Potvin over Joe Bowen any day.
