Re: 2012 NHL Draft
While I agree that it was a poor signing, he still could have signed elsewhere but he chose to stay in Edmonton. With Edmonton supposedly not being a contender for years, why would he choose to stay? If he has the power to leave, is he really going to stay in Edmonton for a few million dollars more over a chance to win?
So the argument goes from "nobody wants to play in Edmonton" to now becoming "nobody wants to play in Edmonton unless they are overpaid".
To claim "nobody wants to play in Edmonton" is making a huge and false generalization.
Also, you have to realize some teams have to overpay to simply reach the cap floor. Some teams have to offer 35+ year olds longer terms to sign with them (Ottawa). It's not like top free agents are lining up to sign with them either.

I think we draft 15th?
Griffin Reinhart, FTW! http://thehockeywriters.com/griffin-reinhart-the-next-ones-2012-nhl-draft-prospect-profile/
Doubt he falls to 15 though.
Given that most of us want the Sens to draft a d-man in the first round, their could be any one of the following available:
Morgan Rielly, Cody Ceci, Reinhart, Olli Maatta, Matt Finn, Slater Koekkoek, and Derrick Pouliot.

Pouliot and Cecil might be gone at 15.
No Swedish forward? Colbert and Aberg are the 2 I think.

I agree, I don't see him falling outside the top 10. Maybe Ottawa will trade up for him!!! Or maybe there's so many D on the table in the first round that we'll be content with any number of them at pick #15.

I'll assume Murray finds the sleeper again and either trades up to get the guy or trades down because he's a true sleeper. Either way, Ottawa will be picking up a D man.

Madness...I don't see how a team would take Maatta ahead of Trouba or Reinhart - or even Pouliot. Don't know much about Dumba, but the other guys seem like slam dunks to go in the 10-15 range, while I think Maatta might fall right in our lap.
Maybe this happened recently that he surged ahead of those other guys. As S4 was saying, he's been excellent in the OHL playoffs.

We're not quite in the position to really take advantage - that's been in the 11-13 range in the last little while (Gormley, Fowler and more I can't remember), but it could really push a gem our way - like Maatta, Trouba, Reinhart.
As mentioned, maybe we try to move up and nab someone different.

Re: 2012 NHL Draft
If you think about it, if all those d-men you listed are top 15 picks, then there is a good chance that the Sens will be able to get one of them, or another not mentioned, based on this:
NHL Central Scouting lists their top NA Skaters as:
Nail Yakupov, Ryan Murray, Mikhail Grigorenko, Alex Galchenyuk, and Morgan Reilly.
Ceci is 6th, Maatta is 8th, Trouba 9th, Reinhart 10th, Dumba 11th, Pouliot 12th, Gaunce 13th, and Finn 16th.
Already, that is 13 players rumoured and projected to be top 15 picks, and I haven't even mentioned Forsberg (which makes 14).
Outside of that, Martin Frk is another guy who could be a top 6 sniper winger.

Re: 2012 NHL Draft
So, should Edmonton draft Ryan Murray, they could trade the #1 pick to Columbus for the 2nd overall pick and LA's 1st overall pick. That could be one option for them.
Edit: the 1st round pick LA sent to CLB is conditional - since LA made the playoffs, Columbus apparently has the option to take their 2012 or 2103 pick.
Or maybe they could trade Sam Gagner for a young top 4 defenceman of the same age?
Edit: MyNHLDraft projects the Sens taking Ludvig Bystrom (MODO) ahead of Maatta, Koekoek and Finn to name a few.

If there's one thing everyone should know by now it's a teams draft rankings are a lot different than anyone elses projections. Bobby Mac is the best out there and that's the only guy or place I really pay attention too.

Everything is wrong with the Oilers from Kevin Lowe down. They have no idea what they are doing. Basically the "lets just hope it works out" deal. Throw Dung at a wall and hope it sticks.
If they don't make the playoffs next year or at least come damn close they better be changing direction.

One way or the other, we're gonna add a nice piece going forward - which is very exciting considering just how well Murray and co. has drafted recently.
Dorion was also talking about a couple of Europeans they want to sign, wonder who they are. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm hoping we draft a kid like Calle Andersson with our 3rd rounder, if he is still around. I'm hoping the fact he doesn't get too much attention will help us out:

He's considered 15th among european skaters in the CSS, and 48th in the ISS.
Or if we drafted the 6 foot, 162 lbs centre Erik Karlsson out of Frolunda, just to confuse people.

Aberg's definitely an intriguing pick. Lots of work for Dorion and Murray to do to come to a clear ranking of these players. If they pick a forward, we'll know how much they like him will all the Ds available.

Please like a D-man!
After years of screaming for some solid forward prospects, we are flush atm. Another solid D prospect is in order methinks. That and a goaltender in the later rounds. A long term project would be nice.
