Some potentially bad games for the Sens tomorrow as a lot of teams ahead of us are playing each other. Hopefully no 3-point games.

Umm, check the stats. They *are* in a slump. 4-6-0 with two of those wins coming via the shootout. They are on a 2-game losing streak that's about to turn 3 as they visit a very strong St. Louis team.

You can't go 20 games without getting a loser point. There is a league rule on that, somewhere.

Seriously, the Bruins have only had one 3-game losing streak this year, when they lost to San Jose, and then the home-and-home against the Habs. If they lose to St. Louis on Wednesday they will match their longest losing streak. But then they play the Sabres and after that 6-0 shellacking I think they will be out for revenge. But if they *do* lose, then they come into Ottawa playing their second game in two nights.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Yeah, well, Kuba looked GREAT against the Isles yesterday. I wouldn't trade him either. I still contend that trading Gonchar and adding a more shutdown guy makes the team better.

I guess he was invited to respond to The Gene's latest nonsense-filled media appearance?

Melnyk was on SNet the other day and did say that they are sticking to the 3-year rebuild plan and would look to "move the contracts of expensive veterans if they’re able to get young players who will grow with the team" if they could.

http://vancouver.24hrs.ca/Sports/hockey/2012/02/20/19403166.html

But, that goes for any team that is in a rebuild phase, so nothing new and nothing ground breaking.

The gonch played a great game too yesterday. And 2A to boot. He needs to shoot more so he can be more effective on the PP (2 goals only so far) and he's indicated to Garrioch that he wants to STAY in Ottawa. He's a great mentor as well and good in the room. Keep him.

Sens' remaining games this month:
- vs Caps tonight
- vs Boston on Sat. Feb. 25th
- vs Islanders on Sun. Feb. 26th
- @ Boston on Tue. Feb. 28th

Big close out to the month. Two vs Boston. Let's do this Sens. Make it happen.

It's nice that we've built a bit of a cushion (again) in 7th. If we can win one of these two upcoming games against the Bruins, I'll consider that huge.

He'll be selling a lot of jerseys, hats, etc. He'll also put fannies in seats (and get fannies out of seats). Karlsson needs to do something like "Wade's World", though.

So what's his contract value now? I had said somewhere between $6-6.5M, but now we might be talking $7M per. Or maybe $6.5 on something really long term (10 years???).

Or would we be more comfortable with $7M per for 5 years? Doughty makes $7M for 8 years.

At least he's RFA....

Have you heard what Melnyk said about Karlsson? I think he wants to adopt him and then bear his children. Buckle up because Karlsson is going to be the best defenseman ever to lace up skates. Surely he's not going to haggle over a few bucks.

The fact Ottawa is an organization where people like Alfi and Phillips have taken less to stay and keep the team competitive (most years) it will pay huge dividends in terms of Karlsson.

Hopefully he gives up some money for term.

I think Melnyk's wallet is getting a little less plump. Which is why he wants to pretend that sticking to a 3 year plan is better than making the playoffs.

You bring up a REALLY valid point in The Alfie factor. Karlsson clearly really respects and looks up to The Alfie, so hopefully he sees the benefits to committing to the ENTIRE team, instead of just looking out for himself.

Hopefully he gives up some money for term.

You bring up a REALLY valid point in The Alfie factor. Karlsson clearly really respects and looks up to The Alfie, so hopefully he sees the benefits to committing to the ENTIRE team, instead of just looking out for himself.

Karlsson & BM need to navigate this one very carefully. It's on both of them to make sure that there's still lots of money to build a good team, and to make sure Karlsson doesn't get saddled with the kind of contract that heaps up unrealistic expectations on him.

I think we go short -- 2 or 3 years -- at $5+ mil a year. Karlsson has had one good season. He's earned a decent paycheque and the right to establish himself, but he's not established yet. Look what those big contracts did to guys like Myers and Doughty. Everyone needs to be thinking long term here.

Karlsson is going to make lots of money, but he needs to be patient, both for his team's and his own sake.

From Senschip's Twitter:

"I see that there is some talk about it on HFBoards too. Can confirm that Anderson is injured but nothing on the severity yet. #Sens".

Hope that's wrong!

EDIT: Yost saying the same thing... no details.

Wouldn't worry too much to be honest. Lehner will be able to step in, he's shown he is NHL ready despite a Dung year, in a Dung city, with a Dung team.
