    NHL 13

Post by Riprock on Sat Jun 02, 2012 11:41 am

So, only a few months away, and more info is coming out, and one thing that is gaining a lot of excitement is the new online dynasty mode.

For those familiar with the series, it is your typical Be a GM mode, but now with online capabilities - which means, hopefully if the info is correct - that you can have sim leagues. So like the GMHSL we have going now, people can run a team - but now they actually can pay the games vs. other users.

More info is needed to make sure, but so far sounds like that will be the case.

This was the next logical step in the series. The downside is that with this "major" feature being added, the rest of the game likely won't change too much...not that it needs to, I guess.

One thing I would love is for them to integrate the Kinect into the game for goalie control.

Gameplay has its problems, specifically with glitch goals - the ones where human players exploit flaws in AI programming to score guaranteed goals.

    And after that... NHL 2015.

NHL 2013 will be known as the LOCKOUT EDITION.

Yeah, people are going to be upset with the ratings. They changed their system, and it's apparently based on a players overall skill for their position.

Pavel Datsyuk is the highest rated overall player at 95, with Crosby 2nd with 94, and then Ovi @ 93.

So, first of all, the ratings have always been wonky. Apparently the EA Sports NHL team uses one scout, who ranks the players for them. The development team is made up of a bunch of Canucks fans, so I have a feeling that some of the better known western players get more thought put into them than the rest.

It's best not to bother arguing about the ratings, because they are OBVIOUSLY wrong in a lot of cases. It's kind of like arguing with a fan of a different team.

One thing that has changed this year, is how the OVERALL rating is determined. In last year's version, the overall rating was based on the player type and certain attributes linked to that player type. For example, Chris Neil is categorized as a "Grinder", so his Checking attribute (and some others) factored more heavily into his overall ranking. This year, it seems like all the attributes factor in evenly when calculating the overall rating. Neil has gone from an 82 last year to a 78 this year. George Parros went from an 81 to a 69 (categorized as a "Tough Guy").

    http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/top-rated-forwards-defensemen-goalies-nhl-13-134739173--nhl.html

Given this, you'll probably need to look at individual attributes a little more closely than last year, to determine good fits for the holes in your lineup.

I wonder if we'll actually get a decent assortment of rookies when the game releases? I know in previous years, guys like Z-Bad, Silf, etc haven't been in the game when its released, and only added afterwards via a roster update.

Yeah it looks like there will be more parity between overalls. I hope that certain players actually have ratings that reflect them. Like Crosby's speed is 91, so I'd hope guys like Hagelin and Greening (or Lisin) have 99, for example.

One of the most controversial ratings was potential. First off, sometimes you get a guy with c, c-, c- and all of a sudden the year after he is a, b, a, then a year later b,c,b... etc.

Obviously some players are naturally going to be better than others, but sometimes a guy has a breakout year. So I'd almost like to see them abolish potential and have ratings reflect performance. The obvios problem is that if you control your tram and play all 82 games, you could potentially have a 60 overall rookie score 50 goals and 100 points, which would significantly raise his attribute ratings and value, which you could capitalize off of via trade, and its also unrealistic. But the other side argues that it is dumb to draft a guy first overall only for him to be a 73 overall with a C,C,C rating.

Re: rookies, Silfverberg was in the game at launch last year, found in Brynas of the SEL. Zibanejad wasn't, but was added later in an update.

Oddly enough, Justin Schultz is actually going to be in the game, with his likeness, despite the NHLPAs policy that a player must play one NHL game to be in the PA.

Anyone in the CHL will be in the game. No new leagues were added. Soem guys in the KHL can be found on the Russian National team. Same with other players and their respective Nat'l teams.

    He was making a joke.

Anyway, rating problems have always been a part of the NHL series, and I always love them, despite the flaws.

The GM Connected mode sounds interesting, coupled with the smartphone app (hopefully available for iPad/iPod/iPhone) that lets you propose trades and stuff even when not on your console.
