In the US, for $5 you get a foot-long.

The HDMI connector is surface-mounted and simply the weight of the cable (it's not very flexible so there was some tourque, too) broke it off. Perhaps you need cable that thick if you have to carry the signal 25', or if you have a lot of other electronic noise nearby -- really good shielding, but way overkill. The one I got from Amazon.ca is much thinner, more flexible and lighter -- and no issues with the PQ.

Perhaps you got a cable from Monoprice with too low a "gauge" (thicker, better shielding). Their regular cables are 28AWG, which I don't think is too thick...the lower the "AWG" rating, the thicker the cable. I use thick HDMI cables on all my stuff (24AWG, I believe) and I haven't had any problems.

It sounds like your LG player just had a lousy connector.

Sounds like the wrong cable was purchased for the job along with a lousy design for an HDMI connector by LG.

Probably not related to Monoprice in any way whatsoever. Just another failed attempt by wprager to say that he got the best deal on merchandise. Facepalm

Never had an issue with any of their stuff and I've been ordering from them for YEARS. My 5-port HDMI switcher is still rocking.

I don't know what you guys are all going on about, other than padding your post counts, trying to get to me. I can't compete, not with 4 high-;maintenance kids and a high-maintenance job. You'll eventually pass me. I'm OK with that.

Monoprice *used to be* the best place to get cables. Nobody could touch them, not even close. But it's not like that any more. Used to be tigerdirect couldn't be beat for some stuff (especially if you didn't mind refurb), then they went off the deep end with their shipping rates and I haven't bought from them since. Gotta know what's the best place for different things instead of sitting in 2009.

Funny picture with the truck and the penny. Totally in appropriate but I guess you were going for some cheap laughs. Bravo.

Yeah, it really had nothing to do with anything, but I found it hilarious.

For the record, Jason Spezza loves Monoprice!

As always, with any on-line retailer, especially from the US, you need to be aware of shipping and duty costs when comparing prices. It may not be a better deal in the end.

Show me another quote where I said they will eventually pass me.
