A bargain if he keeps hitting nearly 50 points. He'll probably be pressed into a top 6 role with more regularity there so that's not a stretch.

He's been pressed into a top6 role for years here, he never showed he could do it consistently over a stretch of games.

By pressed, I mean he won't have to show it consistently and he'll have more leeway in Columbus.

Allegedly, we have an offer on the table for Semin.

I'm betting that with the Murrays refusal to "overpay", he'll likely get a better offer from somewhere else.

I didn't make it up. And it's something I believed before I heard it from someone else. It makes sense. I have no specifics, so I dunno if it's a legit offer that could warrant acceptance or not. I still doubt we pony up enough term and cash to get Semin here, but that doesn't mean we're not trying.

Even if it's true, I bet our offer is 2 years, 10 million and Semin won't sign for less than 3 years, 18 million.

There are pretty much no people left here from the Yashin era. Different owner, different everything.

If the Sens sign Semin (which I am not sure how I feel) it will be something like 3 years x 7mil or 5 years x 6mil... either way this guy is going to get paid.

If I am the Sens I am not worried about the cash, I'm worried about the term. He could be the best signing of the off season or could be the worst. I can only imagine him getting the puck from Spezza, Semin has the best shot in the game today.

I said before I would happily take Semin on a short-term, high dollar contract (like $14M for two years). I don't write the contracts though, unfortunately.

Yeah, I feel the same. Short term, for whatever dollar amount, I'm not too concerned, I guess. No big, long deals for that guy, tho'. I'm also super nervous about Russians generally, for a bunch of reasons, but we do need a shooter / finisher on the wing pretty badly. It's why I would have paid just about any price for Parise.

2 years, 10 million, not a red penny more. :crossarms:

The shorter the term, the more the per year dollar figure goes up -- and the longer the term, the more it goes down.

2x6 sounds about right -- but I'm thinking that some dumb team will offer him a 5x6 deal.

Someone will (I think the max offer will be 4 though).

Thin UFA market, lots of teams lost out on Parise (apparently 20 teams made offers).

2 year deal won't cut it, no way.

I meant, a 2-year deal is about what his inconsistent play has earned him, but I'm pretty sure some desperate GM will offer him a 5+ year deal.

No way he signs a 2 year deal, otherwise he will go to the KHL. The guy knows how to score at the NHL level, hell he can do it in the playoffs too, but soooo risky.

The shorter the term, the larger the money. 3 x 7 is what I would guess like I said up there.
