Seriously, build around Weber and Rinne, no real issue there. You lost Suter, it'll be as much a wakeup call to Suter as it is to the Preds. No way he has as good a season in Minny without Weber. Who's gonna play with him? Gilbert? Yikes...

Yeah, I believe that is a condition of an offer sheet - they can't be part of the offer sheet. Word was that if the Preds did not match, Philly would put one in place after via an amendment.

But, now that the Preds have matched, they have the contract without an NMC/NTC. Bonus for them.

I'm thinking that might be doing Philly a favour. They have a bit of a logjam in the top 6 right now with Briere, Giroux, Hartnell, Schenn, Simmonds, Couturier, Read, and Voracek. Losing Voracek for a 1st and a 3rd wouldn't be terrible. They can possibly do better than that on the trade front, but I don't know that they'd match at this point.

If this is still the correct compensation, then I'd offer $3.134M max, which would only cost a 2nd round pick, for a 45-50 point forward. If Philly matches, so be it. Then they are stuck with a $3M+ bottom 6 forward they can't trade for at least one year, and prevents them from making other moves (i.e. Doan, a defenceman). Also takes away a bargaining chip in any possible trade offers to acquire a defenceman now that they lost out on Weber.

$1,034,249 annual cap hit or less: No compensation
$1,034,249 $1,567,043: Third-round pick
$1,567,043 $3,134,088: Second-round pick
$3,134,088 $4,701,131: First and third-round pick
$4,701,131 $6,268,175: First, second and third-round pick
$6,268,175 $7,835,219: Two first-round picks, a second and third
$7,835,219 and higher: Four first-round picks

Ha. That works, except he probably wouldn't sign the sheet.

Seriously. They pay $14mil or whatever he's getting for this year, they can do whatever they want and he can suck it up. It's a shame Columbus doesn't have enough to trade.

Ahaha.

Can't wait to hear his reaction:

"This is where I wanted to be all along"

"Disregard the fact that I spoke with several teams and visited several cities. I was really only shopping for an offer sheet so Nashville could match!"

Maybe, maybe not. Right now he has NO contract, and I would guess that they have been talking, and the reason no deal has been reached could be many reasons, but probably he wants more, they want less, and they were probably holding out until the Weber situation and/or Doan one is resolved.

He very well have given Nashville every option to re-sign him - he did get a longer, richer contract with the Philly offer sheet, so maybe his plan was to force their hand into giving them what he wanted. Either way, he gets what he wants whether it was Nashville or Philly.

Worst news ever for Philly!
For Philly or Weber?

Wink

Philly loses nothing if they match.

Weber has to go back into that room... with a $110M contract... bah... Weber wins no matter what.

:crossarms:

True.

I meant for Philly though. That's not a good enough defence at all, they're gonna be eaten alive with those guys on the backend and Bryzgalov in net.

Just wait till NSH strikes back in July 2015 -- Giroux, Schenn, and Couturier = all RFAs. No way the NSH franchise forgets for a second that PHI has driven them to the brink of financial ruin. Set your watch to it.

Nashville's been legit for some time.

Not if they didn't match. This sent a message to everyone.

Sucks for Weber, his agent has just totally Cussed him.

There are worse places than Nashville. For example, Columbus:

American Whistle Corporation
Confederate Cemetery
Segway Tours
Central Ohio Fire Museum
Ohio Theater (a bit off Broadway)
German Village
Wyandotte Winery

Plus don't forget that you are on the road for half of the season (and only have to visit Buffalo once).

Preds: "BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
Preds: "Actually, sure, we'll give you a limited NTC. Submit 1 team that you do not wish to be traded to."

I'd love to see that, but I doubt they have any money left.

It's not even about getting the other team's player at this point. It's just about Diddle-ing with their Dung.
