If there's one, there will be more.

I figured that would happen. I wonder who else will jump ship. I'm sure it's an attractive option for the older European players in particular.
I guess he really doesn't want to play for the isles eh?

He said flat out he would never play for the Isles. So this isn't a big surprise.

Wonder if they'll grieve it?

They gave up a 2nd for nothing, so something's gonna have to happen.

In the end he may be the only one, and he certainly doesn't want to play on the Island. But there were reports of KHL teams offering incentives for players to syay. Pushing envelopes full of money at them and the like.

Source? Were the reports in English? I haven't heard that.

It was Friedman or McKenzie that tweeted that they heard rumblings the KHL would offer incentives to players to stay. Of course, they also just came to that agreement with the NHL to honour each others' contracts...but hey, it's the KHL. I won't blame any player for staying over there.

Rumours are rampant that Kovalchuk is going to stay in the KHL. The Gonch and Malkin are definitely coming back though.

You're not far off. Have a look at their roster:

Without Kovalchuk, and with two old fossils tending goal, they won't be a playoff team.

They have a lot of work to do next offseason, too...which I guess isn't necessarily a bad thing with the cap coming down.

They are going to go through a huge rebuild, no question about it. They are in for a tough few years.

Probably because Weise won't finish the year there.

That is pathetic. I'd rather give a rookie a chance than bring in a guy like Kovalev - especially with the way the Panthers are made up. Bad.

Holmstrom is retiring, too. Zetterberg will wear the 'C'. Not official yet but it's a poorly kept secret.

Kovalchuk would be leaving a lot of money on the table... like $80M.
