Either way, Melnyk is a sociopath and doesn't know whether he is telling the truth or lying as his reality changes day to day. His wife might be able to buy the team though!

NEELY wrote:Jesus people, why do you keep talking about Melnyk and him losing money on the Sens.  The OTTAWA SENATORS and CTC do no lose money, they turn a profit almost every year.  Now, how Melnyk and his creative accounts want to recognize revenue's and expenses is totally up to them.

How much money does Melnyk make off the capital tickets fees for Sens games?  You can play with the numbers, record revenues in other places, expenses under the Sens and boom, you have a big loss each year.  He could easily be making the 10 mil he claimed he lost last year if he reports it a certain way.

People still fail to acknowledge that Melnyk's other business' are hurting, he can't develop his land, and he's using the Sens as a whole for leverage against the city.  Alfie leaving town was a shot across the bow, Melnyk flexing his muscle to put people in a panic and clearly it worked.  The guy may refuse to spend money out of spite, we'll see but the Sens are in no trouble financially... again, THE OTTAWA SENATORS MAKE MONEY.
May I ask what got you riled up enough to post this? I don't think there's a single mention of Melnyk on (at least on this page of) this thread. There are people talking about the cap above here, then your rant about how no one should be discussing Melnyk. You get very shouty, but I can't understand what you're responding to.

    Odd.

Neely's clearly not over the whole Alfie thing. He hasn't moved on like the rest of us.

I think it was Pronman's ranking of the Sens' prospects at #18. NEELY took great offense to that.

Seems like he's suggesting Melnyk deliberately let the Alfie walk to show the City how poor he is and have a more sympathetic council approve a Casino for him. Ahhhhh! Ahhhhh!

I don't blame you for being sick of the subject but I don't know why you are so surprised.

It's at least partially Eugene's sideshow but if this team is going to become the farm team for the rest of the NHL because we're going to be run on a shoestring and if the only goal of ownership is profitability not winning the Cup then it's hard to imagine what the future of this team will be.

Watson will be the first one looking for a photo op with a Senators sweater in some lame mayors bet come playoff time.

What has Melnyk actually done? I can't stand Watson either and will vote him out first chance I get but Melnyk is just a loud mouth and should probably be in jail based on his past.

This whole thing is politicing to the nth degree. Until something major actually happens like Spezza, Ryan, Karlsson leaving town or anything of that sort then people are just doing the chicken little thing. Big difference between a 41 year old looking for 7 mil a year leaving and guys who are in the prime of their careers leaving town because they couldn't pay them.

Melnyk is pretty similar to most NHL owners, that's the kind of people that buy hockey teams.

If he couldn't afford Alfie then he won't afford Ryan or Spezza. They're different players of different ages but their agents will make big, unreasonable requests just like JP Barry did and if Eugene is going to blow up and make this personal again it won't go well.

Easy to pick out which one is the chick. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

How does it not make sense? They'll both ask for a lot and that's assuming they even want to stay here.

Will the Sens offer come close to what they can get on the open market? Or will they try and force them to take whatever fits into Eugene's budget? Because it's not Ryan and Spezza's job to fit within the budget.

They're not going to come cheap and I think the era of "hometown discounts" is over. If #11 didn't give us one they sure as hell won't.

Why would you spend 7 million dollars on a 40 year old when you could put that money towards Spezza and Ryan? Two young players in the primes of their careers.

This whole Alfie thing is soooooo old now. I'm so sick of hearing about it to be honest. We have to wait until next summer to see the real state of the team when Ryan and Spezza are up for re-neg.

In 2 years they need to re-sign Methot, Spezza, Ryan and Zibanejad. Should be fun.
