And no way does Bell ever become a Senator, and no way does Ottawa want to move Elliott or Zubov at this time.

With your proposals, you might want to include a 3rd team.

Nah, I just don't think Toronto makes it easy on us, it's not really up to us... We can ask, but Toronto has the final say... They don't care if this deal goes through or not...

He let it slip the other day that his boyhood idols were the Boston Bruins. I think he's Boston bound either by the deadline or in the off-season.

    But hey, you never know...

Geez, watch the heck out if he does go to Boston... Man they'll have a pretty wicked team if he goes there...

Bell becomes a Sen because it takes the $$ off TOs books. We can waive him or whatever, but all TO cares about is getting rid of Dung and bringing in picks/young talent.

Elliot and Pogge would be a fun tandem for TO to have in years to come. And they'd lose some games and gain some experience in the process IMO.

Ottawa doesn't want to move Elliot and Zubov (and a 1st) for Toskala? Ottawa doesn't get Toskala then.

It's unfortunate, but TO has the ability to play hardball with anyone right now. They got rid of the true rubbish in the summer and now they have assets for a contender - sweet assets too.

Now...is all this moot anyway? Would Toskala waive his NTC to come to Ottawa?

Toskala doesn't have a NTC. Only three players as it stands have them:

Hagman (go Diddle figure) - NMC for 08-09
    Kaberle - NTC
Kubina - Limited NTC (in full effect right now)

Oh man, there you go. I thought for sure he did. He's a deadline acquisition for someone.

Maybe we can play ball - if the Leafs feel like what we're presenting is good enough.

504Heater wrote:No deal for the Leafs. They'll want Elliot and a 1st minimum. They'll tell us if they'll take Gerber or not (doubtful), they would say no to Nikulin for sure. What do they need him for?

    More likely scenario:

    Ilya Zubov
    Brian Elliot
    Ottawa's 1st Round Pick

    for

    Vesa Toskala
    Mark Bell

And they'd say: if you don't like it - Diddle off.

Agreed. I don't think they'd want to deal with us at all to be honest. Even if they want to finish last, they won't help us get better in the process. I say, no deal on their part at all. But, wow, would I love to have him....

Why did you get me all excited for nothing??!! The subject line is Toskala to OTT?! I"m thinking, holy Dung!! Is this actually being talked about??

DashRiprock wrote:Had things have been different, he'd already be a Senator.

Now that the Leafs have him and still look at Pogge as their future #1, should the Leafs look at moving Toskala to stock up on picks? He's got 2 more seasons left ('till 10-11) at a nice deal of $4 million. He''' be a big factor in how the Leafs finish their season. With him, they are a better team and will win some games thanks to his play. Without him, they will surely lose a few more games than they would have with him. He could be the difference between #1 and #7.

    So, here's my proposal.

    To TOR:
    Martin Gerber
Alexander Nikulin (just to get rid of another problem)
SJ 1st Rnd Pick in 2009

    To OTT:
    Vesa Toskala

Yeah I gotta agree with others here. That deal won't get it done. The Leafs gave up a 1st, 2nd 3rd (or 4th?) ... before anyone really knew if Toskala could be a starter. Now we do. He did pretty well with a HORRIBLE team in front of him.

In addition, the Leafs took Bell off SJ's hands. Regardless of what JFJ claims, they didn't want Bell.

With all due respect, your trade is terrible; not even close. Nikulin we don't want, and you don't want either. Gerber would be us doing you a favor. We have no use for him. San Jose's 1st rounder is more like a 2nd rounder.

I would say Zubov or Lee, and a second would be a fair start to the discussions. If you want us to take Gerber off your hands, that second becomes a first.... and we want yours; not san Jose's Wink

The truth is I would LOVE to see this deal go down. I think it would be good for both teams.

I think you're bang on again Aetherial. One thing we both agree on is that a trade that emcompasses these pieces (give or take) would be fantastic for both teams. However, it's getting both Murray and Fletcher to agree on a price that could be tricky, but your insight seems dead-on to me. We would probably have to sacrifice our 1st...

Then again though, if this deal goes through and they are insistent on our pick, who's to say with Toskala we don't win a couple of rounds in the playoffs... Then our pick is just as high as San Jose's.. If that is what was holding up the trade, I guarentee Murray would gladly hand over our pick...

I'd hate to see Zubov go with Elliot. Both are considered NHL potential prospects (unlike Hennessy, trade him quick!!)

Maybe Nikulin and Elliot. Murray doesn't seem like the type to overpay.

As far as the picks, I agree with what you said 100%.

PS, HB forums are dead. I'm ALMOST productive at work without them!!! Or am I... :pirat:
