I've never been impressed with Drouin, never. He's all flash.

Haha nothing at all.  Amazes me a team can be held to 16 shots and someone says one of the D men wasn't good or even played poorly.  Wiercioch has been fine other than the odd poor game like against NYR where he and Ceci struggled.

We won't discuss what D man is only surviving at this point and even that's a stretch.

I kind of agree... just too many guys to move for each and everyone of them to move though.

For the first time, I'll concede that Gryba will probably be gone - and it's not because he's not good, he's a quite good number 6 guy, but the more you watch the team, the more you see that they need a puck mover on every pairing. First pairing is obvious, 2nd pairing is Ceci, now you need a puck mover on the third pairing as well.

This would have been the (almost) optimum time to see Wideman, but in the thick of a playoff hunt, it may not be the greatest idea.

I don't think they would risk moving Gryba until they could see what Wideman could do on an extended trial. We've got plenty of 7/8/callup lefties but on the right side we've got Gryba and Wideman, and we've only seen Wideman in a couple of warmups.

I actually think that's a position that they might look at the free agent market or trade market to fill. We need another solid defender to push us up a notch. We'll see I guess, Wideman appears to deserve a chance, but perhaps someone like Michalek's brother?

Michalek is making, what, $5M a year? Can't have that on the third pairing. That's the thing to remember -- we've got Karlsson and Ceci on the two top pairings so we're just looking for someone to move the puck on the third pairing and share PK responsibilities. Frankly I don't know how Wideman is on the PK, but we don't want to use Karlsson, and Ceci will need help (right now he's 2nd unit, I believe).

No, no. He's a ufa I believe and getting old. I think he's a 2.5 million a year guy tops, although who knows I guess.

Didn't realize he was in nearing his mid-30s. And making $4M. Still, not that old and I don't know if either his salary or his ice time is going to come down to third-pairing levels.

That could happen for sure, although I think he can start gaining confidence in his offense here.
