Pretty much, but capable of more production if he keeps healthy.

I'll say this about Hoffman though, neither of those guys has his shot.

No. That's what I mean. More production if he can stay healthy and learn what it takes to play when you're in a slump.

I think it needs to be corrected in 1-1 conversation and at practice, and not by starting him on the 4th line. Communicate with words and not just actions.

    .

Yes I'm sure they say absolutely nothing to him in practice or in video sessions etc.

It's gotta start with better 2-way play. Just get back to basics -- north-south, harder on the puck, harder to get pushed off, smart puck management, no stupid fancy stuff. It's stuff he was better at in the first 40-50 games, so just go back to it.

I worry about having another Bobby Butler on our hands if he doesn't change course. 25+ goals on the season might be having him thinking he's a better overall player that he has shown he's been in the last 1-2 months. Hoffman needs to maintain some perspective here and get back to working hard and playing the team game.

Let's not forget that Hoffman's PDO was not going to hold up. Was hoping it would continue for the rest of the season but looks like it's regressed back to the mean. Still, he has speed and a wicked shot and he's still getting chances almost every game.

It's not just that though. Cameron wants a 5 man unit going into both offensive and defensive zones and lately it seems Hoffman is floating a bit.

He's got to listen and apply what's being told to him, because he's got special speed and a special shot, but you can't just have that and be successful anymore.

Hoffman isn't playing the right way a lot of the time and until he does he is going to keep seeing 4th line minutes at ES.

He needs to learn how to play away from the puck and he needs to be given top pp time IF he listens, because he's pretty much the best option on the half wall.

Smith actually looked good. There was one shift where I think he kept the pressure on 4 different times by getting the puck back and onto the stick of his linemates. Big game from him.

But he never did what you're suggesting he needs to learn doing. He was always a flashy forward with great speed and shot who needed more defensively aware linemates.
