On another note, Philly and NYI play tonight and if Philly can win that one then Pitt/NYI is an enormous game Thurs.

What's the difference if Philly wins or loses tonight? Curious.

Islanders and Caps are fighting for home ice. Caps are 1 point up but Islanders have game in hand. If Islanders don't win tonight they are less likely to rest veterans against Pittsburgh on Friday.

Edit: Double-checked, yes, the Islanders/Penguins game is Friday, not Thursday. Lots of time for vets to rest, IMO, even if they beat the Flyers.

Also they are huge rivals and they will want to beat the Penguins regardless

Not so much about wanting to, it's about resting veterans. Getting home ice is important enough to risk playing your vets; if it's clinched, resting your vets becomes more important than beating a rival.

They don't even have "vets", though.

Really? Six players 30 and over, another 9 26 and over. But regardless of age, you want to make sure your best players are ready for the playoffs, and more often than not getting them a day off works really well. To say nothing of risking injury in a nothing game.

Wow. If he can make it out of this first period down just two, I'll consider that a success.

Our awful second periods have been misplaced to awful first periods.

    Time to dig deep....

Best player in the game. Wow.

I'm not too upset about losing to this team but I don't understand why the 2nd and 3rd lines were juggled right after they scored the 1st goal.

I wonder how we'd be looking with a 100% Ryan over this stretch. Sucks to happen now.

Horse Dung penalty calls, but we've just gotta put the pedal down in the 3rd. Pittsburgh's forecheck is causing us problems just like Boston's always does. Just gotta find a way to move the puck a little crisper out of our zone. Crowd fleury and get a couple dirty ones.....
