Their top players didn't do much in the first either. The first goal is one that Hammond would like to have another look at, for sure. That was pretty weak, best player or not. The second one a Pens player stood in the crease interfering with him and fell over him as the shot came. Third one was a fluke. Somebody's go to look up and swat it away. This is the second time I've seen this happen to Hammond. Anyhow, that goal was luck.

Malkin, what a diver. They introduced the Fab Four -- the Canadian women's diving team. Well I'd say the Fab Five were in attendance. That "tripping" penalty to Ryan was an unbelievable piece of diving. Ryan's stick was to his left, nowhere near his feet, and he was just trying to get position on him. Malkin places his had/arm on Ryan's head and pushes him into the ice, then falls over him. There was absolutely no trip.

Methot hits him against the boards and he swoons. Then realizes there's no penalty and suddenly, miraculously recovers.

Crosby not much better. Borowiecki got hurt too, nobody blew the whistle for him. By the way, never did see a replay (and forgot to set the PVR) what happened to Boro? I just saw him falling down and spinning on the ice. Looked pretty bad for a while.

It looked like he schmucked his knee up pretty good, but BoroCop is part machine.

Dobber over at dobber hockey said that an AHL goalie should not have been given a start of this magnitude

Cameron's faith in Hammond may have saved our season.

    That sounds like fun.

Stone, Turris, Hoffman, ZBad, Ceci, JGP, Wiercioch, Lazar, Puempel, and Hammond have all turned heads this season.

I'd have Stone, Turris, ZBad, Ceci, and Pageau in my list of guys that have arrived. They still have lots of room for growth, but we know that they're going to be important contributors for sure.

Hoffman, Wiercioch, Lazar, Puempel, and Hammond are all guys that are going to have to show some more growth. Still, they all look like they have the ability to be regular contributors. (I want to have Lehner in there, but he didn't have a good year.)

That's a great young core. Add in guys like Ryan, Karlsson, (healthy) Michalek, Mac, and Methot, and this team is just going to get more and more fun to watch.

Probably right. But Fleury was pretty good.

The numbers do lie when it comes to Hammond last night. He made some legit saves to keep the comeback going.

Pretty much. The first one, meh. The third one was a fluke. Do it 100 times and the other 99 it ends up landing behind the goal or someone clears it away. The second one was goalie interference. Not sure why they didn't even protest it. Hammond's been the story of the NHL for nearly two months, now, and teams have definitely taken notice and are taking measures. Again, last night, there were cases of players throwing themselves into the crease (Hornquvist comes to mind). Not talking about diving (stick first) at a puck in the crease but, rather, an almost systematic approach where if you have a good look you take the shot but if you don't then you try to take out the goalie.

Oh, and did I mention the diving? OMG I am beginning to hate Malkin *sooo* much. Every time he was touched he went down.

Stone is one point behind Gaudreau and tied with Forsberg (same number of goals/assists. Also tied with Forsberg at 6 GWG. Pulling away in the takeaway department, now leading by 2. On the front of the NHL.com website as their top story (Stone Cold Stunner).

Making a late surge in the Calder for sure.

Just remembered -- even when it was still 2-0 he made a couple of huge saves. First one he'd like to have back but, honestly, how do you leave the "BPIH" alone like that, on the rush, off the opening faceoff? What the heck happened? Anyhow, 2nd goal was crease interference and as much as I hated the skate-in-the-crease rule back then what they have now is almost as bad -- there is no reason for a player to be in the crease before a shot. Even if there is no contact (there was quite a bit just as the shot was taken) it's still distracting to the goalie. Add a rule for crease infraction (no penalty) like they have in the NCAA or be more strict on calling goaltender interference. On that goal Hammond ends up laying on the ice with a Penguin on top of him, getting up very slowly. Why not skate over to the timekeeper's bench and take a look at the replay? Anyhow, after those two, before the third one (fluke) he was making fantastic saves.
