    2016 Awards Predictions

Post by spader on Thu Mar 17, 2016 2:34 pm

Who's gonna take home the hardware? Make your best guesses here.

    Hart: Kane (Karlsson, Holtby)
    Vezina: Holtby (Bishop, Crawford)
    Norris: Karlsson (Doughty, Burns)
    Calder: Panarin (Larkin, Gostisbehere)
    Art Ross: Kane
    Rocket Richard: Ovie
    Lady Byng: no idea
    Jack Adams: Gallant (Trotz, Sutter)
    Selke: Bergeron (Stone, Kopitar)

That's my picks. Stone may not be in Selke consideration, but I don't think you can discount his unreal lead in takeaways.

I wanted to enter Karlsson for all the awards but I thought that might be just a tad ridiculous....here it goes (in order of 1st, 2nd, 3rd)

    Hart: Kane (Benn, Holtby)
    Vezina: Holtby (Bishop, Quick)
    Norris: Doughty (Karlsson, Klingberg)
    Calder: Panarin (Gostisbhere, Eichel)
    Art Ross: Kane
    Rocket Richard: Ovie
    Lady Byng: Eriksson (Kopitar, Seguin)
    Jack Adams: Trotz (Gallant, Hakstoll)
    Selke: Kopitar (Bergeron, Pavelski)

    Hart: Kane (hate it)

    Vezina: Holtby

Norris: Karlsson should. I hope he does win it. But I don't think he will.

Calder: I think "Ghost" has a real chance. He's already go 39 points (what Ekblad had when he won) in just 51 games. He's got 16 goals and as streaky as he is he *could* get to 20. And while he's not an 18 year old he was instrumental in dragging the Flyers into the playoffs.

    Ross: Kane

    Richard: Ovechkin

Byng: who cares (Hoffman can win it for all I care)

    Adams: Trotz should win.

Selke: Stone won't win it for the simple reason that he plays on a team that gives up the most shots and goals in the league. So Bergeron.

I'll just reiterate that I don't think Holtby will win the Vezina, but I'll have to think about it.

Of course he will. Not only are they leading the league, he's also their workhorse. Can you even name their backup without googling it?

Actually, as Sens fans, we should all be familiar with every single backup in the league.

True enough. Also, anyone who plays fantasy hockey likely knows most backups and a few third-stringers.

Yeah, it's Grubauer and he's actually got better stats than Holtby. I get that Holtby has a ridiculous amount of wins, but that's because Washington is ridiculously good. I'll certainly admit that he might win, but I don't think he should or will. The thing is that the only real other candidate is Ben Bishop, and Tampa hasn't been playing him a ton. But his GAA is 2.02, which is by far and away the best in the league. He's also the leader in save % among starters.

In all seriousness this only happens when Alfie takes the role of player/coach next season.

Have you watched many Washington games? Yes, they're good, but he's been spectacular. He isn't one of those goalies that just happens to be playing in front of a good team. He's a big reason why they're so good. I've been paying close attention to him for the last three or four years (for fantasy hockey), and I can tell you that he's a better goalie than you're giving him credit for.

Also, I think Crawford and maybe Quick are other reasonable candidates.

It's not like Holtby's .922 SV% is bad. Bishop has huge D in front of him -- Hedman is 6'6", Sustr is 6'7", Coburn is 6'5". Carlson is 6'3" and he's the biggest on the Caps blue line. Holtby has to manage more shots from in close and more traffic in his crease.
