Pretty sure Stastny has a NTC, and he wouldn't waive to come here. He chose to sign there as a FA.

Hr might to get away from Hitchcock, but that might be a snag

I'm not certain that he's the solution. He seems to be declining. I don't think a 40-50 point guy is much of an upgrade on ole 40-50 point ZBad.

He's a 40 point guy in 56 games this year. He's a 60+ point guy any day of the week. Injuries messed him up last year and this year he got Hitchcocked a lot of the time, playing on the 3rd line with PP2 PP time if he's lucky. And we're talking about one of the premiere passers in the league too, he should be on PP1 on any team.

I think he'd be a natural fit here with Ryan and would be a 65-75 point player while benefiting Ryan 5 on 5 and PP and Karlsson in both scenarios too.

Another advantage is that Stastny was once considered 2nd only to Bergeron in the faceoff dot. Now he's moved down to the lower top 20, but he's literally .5% away from Bergeron this year (while taking 700 less draws due to injury, but still).

Puck possession, puck possession and once again puck possession.

Yeah, I'd take a pass on Stastny unless we get him for peanuts. I wouldn't trade ZBad straight up for him.

You'd get him for a Phaneuf type deal. St.Louis made a mistake, he's not a fit and he's expensive.

He's still not going to waive to come here, and I think the Sens are done taking on contracts that are too big...Phaneuf was the extent of that I think.

In this scenario, I think they'd trade Zibanejad for a winger. Depends again on whether or not we get a new GM.

Yeah I agree. That was the result of having no other options available and us being able to unload our own garbage. This isn't likely to happen again.

Was he a 60+ point guy last season when he scored 46 points in 74 games, or three seasons ago when he scored 24 in 40?

I think he's declining. I believe this would be the wrong time to grab a $7M 40-50 point guy, especially one who has significant injury problems. We already have Ryan who is earning that for slightly better production, and people (rightly) believe that we're paying too much for his production. I think Stastny would be a mistake.

He might be a mistake, but you can't look at tiny sample sizes like that when he's played well - and recently. This year he's on a 60 point pace despite being stuck in a bad situation (for him) in St.Louis. Look at his body of work and try to remember that he had a lot of trouble coming back from a broken foot last year.

Not saying he'd be a godsend, but I like him as a 1C and Turris as the 2C, think it adds a new dimension for us.

I think you have to look at his recent body of work. Is he injury prone? Yes. Does his production fluctuate? Yes.
It's easy to say Hitchcock put him on the third line but maybe he put himself on that third line by not playing well enough.

I'm not sure we can affoard expensive diminishing assets. We have two on the team even though they are still debatable as to how much they are in th decline or one just need a better C to play with consistently.

It's a gamble, probably not one to take, but that's how desperate we are for a veteran C imo. Not sure how the season will play out with status quo from the top two cs. Riding a lot on zbad...again.

I'm hoping Zbad can take another step forward. A bit more consistency and he's a 60+ point guy. He's on the cusp.

If you're gonna go with ZBad, I feel you must turn Hoffman into a legit veteran winger. A very good one too. I hope they can do that and don't just sit on their arsed this off season and 'try real hard'.
