It's gonna look pretty bad on a national broadcast.  Usually home openers are a guarantee sellout crowd night for the sens.  They clearly f'd up something this time around.

I think they are aware. My Facebook feed has been plastered by senators announcement regarding the game, tickets and not to miss out on tickets. I smell panic mode in the sales office.

All the people that drive down from Toronto are probably high on Blue Jays fever. Maybe even some of the local Leafs fans. And the prices are high and the team sucked last year.

I wish we didn't let Matthews have his first one.

Edit:and second one... Don't make it a hat trick Anderson.....

Anderson 2 goals on 7 shots... Tell me he was cleanly beaten and not his usual rusty early season self.
Is it the D's fault again? God why can't I be watching this!

Thank God we won. This was pretty much a carbon copy of last year's games, and is not really a game we deserved to win, but take it and run. It's very nice to have Turris back.

There's gonna have to be some trades after this debacle.

What would it take to land this Matthews kid?

Wow. We'll bank those two points big time. Didn't think a win was coming.

It would be interesting to know what Boucher really thinks of this one.

He said It was expected and I agree. The system is just getting started.

Young teams like leafs always look good early on. Marner was terrible in my opinion, constantly cheating at our blue line

What a great start to the season

As soon as I saw Matthews and the kids lining up for the OT I knew it was going to be over on the first shift. Once Turris won the faceoff I knew we'd get the extra point. That was a pretty play, 100% a set-play. You could tell when Karlsson didn't like their set-up and brought the puck back outside. It was almost unfair of Babcock of putting Matthews out like that, but with a 4-goal debut, how could he not?

The goals, to answer some questions. Bobby Ryan's was a tap in off a Karlsson rebound. Andersen flubbed it with his glove and it landed to his right, Ryan just pushed it across the goal line.

Karlsson's goal was a weird one. It was a rising shot that ricocheted off JVR's stick fairly far out, then shot down and bounced off the ice and became a rising shot again, beating Andersen top corner. Frankly, because the deflection was so far out and the actual shot went in pretty much where it was initially aimed, I'm kinda thinking a good goalie could have stopped that.

Matthews' first goal was a scramble in front. Anderson was down and out and he pounced on a loose puck. Why he was left unchecked? Don't remember who was on the ice.

His second one was Karlsson's fault. He had the puck at the boards but was too loosey-goosey with it and Auston lifted his stick, took away the puck and then Anderson didn't stick to the post. Pretty goal, I'm sure you've seen replays if you have a TV.

His third one, I thought there should have been a penalty when Ryan got dumped in the Leafs zone, but then Ryan was way too slow getting back and Matthews was so open. I don't blame that goal on Ryan getting dumped because there was still plenty of time for him to get back. Bad play on his part.

His fourth goal was a very pretty last-second 2-on-1. Someone screwed up and Wideman was left all alone. Puck was deep in the Leafs zone with 10 seconds. Should never happen.

The fact that ottawa won that game with all the Dung they had to endure with Matthews putting the leafs up 3 times, is pretty impressive.

Hoffman had a really poor game, you hate to single out a player in game one but he needs to pay attention to the finer details of the game, especially protecting the puck.

Toronto's goalie was also poor, which really helped us.

Yep, Frederik Andersen was pretty Dung for the Leafs. Also, good point on Hoffman. All his chances seem to either come on the PP or off the rush, with very little being generated from sustained puck pressure in the offensive zone.
