Beauty of a third.   really came out strong.

I actually managed to watch the third live. I believe they were 17-18 shots on goal after two periods. Canucks with the 18. So they limited them to 4 in the third. Guess three games in four nights is not easy on a couple of 36 year olds.

Andy was good when called on. Glad they held on to give him a shutout.

Dzingel was very opportunistic. I don't think he had a huge game but he was in the right place at the right time.

I continue to be impressed with Smith's speed. He was blowing by opposition players again.

I only watched the first period which was pretty good. Nice to see Andy get things on track with a big SO. I won't get too optimistic after a single game, but hopefully they've found some lines they can stick with and they'll build off this victory.

How good is Stone?  It won't necessarily show on the stat sheet, but he was a thorn in their side all night.   That line was fantastic.

I think Stone's one of the most underrated players in the league...Kind of like MacArthur when Mac was in his prime, but even better. Just very smart, with skills to match.

Umm, Stone was runner-up for the Calder and has led the league in both his first years in takeaways. And he was up-there in scoring as well. So very good defensively but with first-line offensive stats. He is not under-rated as much as he is just in his third year.

It looks like he's finally getting his legs under him. Mind you, maybe Vancouver was a tired team, but he did appear to be labouring a lot less than the first few games. It's understandable -- he was never a fast skater to start with, then he missed most of camp. That was a very nice play to set up Hoffman (damn you Miller! Dammit! ).

I only saw the highlights this morning but it looked like Ryan line is developing some chemistry. Beauty assist by BFR on that second Dzingel goal.

Need to get Hoff going. He's certainly getting some chances.

Where does Lazar fit into this? Does moving Stone down to L3 and trying Puempel on L1 work at all? So many questions with Pyatt now on the team and looking like a permanent fixture.

Lazar takes Puempel's spot. Neil stays in the lineup.

As a huge supporter of Ryan, I'm still super nervous about his ability to get up and down the ice. He's as slow as Stone ever was and he doesn't have Stone's puck smarts to bail him out. He appears to be developing some chemistry with Brassard, as you say, but it's still worth keeping an eye on.

You're looking at the Pageau/Stone/Smith line the wrong way. It's the 2nd line - or even the top line on this team. It's odd to say that, but Stone makes the line as good as any other line we have going and Pageau is still massively underrated IMO. Smith on there makes it a trifecta of players who are tough to play against.

I petitioned for Stone being on a 'line 3' forever last year and now Boucher's really spread things out with Turris/Hoffman together and Brassard/Ryan together and now Pageau/Stone together and a 4th line that's playing a very sharp brand of hockey right now. I never ever thought Neil had this in him and I never believed Kelly could rebound from his injury last year and be effective, but it's looking really good right now.

Also, Puempel made a couple of fantastic plays, namely in the first, I think, where he was all over the Canucks D-men with speed and the threat of speed until they finally gave the puck away at the blueline and there was a great chance for Ottawa. That was more the Puempel I think we all remember.

That sucks for Puempel, but from what I saw last night, as long as he works hard, he's the first guy to get into that lineup when/if there's an injury. Quite impressed.

Neil won't be coming out of that lineup until he has a string of games where he sucks. He's been really strong.

Yeah. I'm not making much out of this game. The mucks had been overperforming. Still have them pegged to finish last

They're bad, but the system that seems to be finally showing is encouraging. Other teams have been stacking the neutral zone against us for so long, it's so nice to turn the tables and see meek dump ins or turnovers at center ice - one of which was directly responsible for a goal IIRC - the first one.

Did this come from somewhere or is just BS speculation?

BS speculation. Is this our best lineup?

I'd also ask where Mac fits in if/when he's back.
