If I was voting purely from the heart it would be Quebec, Winnipeg, Halifax, Hamilton in that order BUT, I voted with logic and an expectation of the team being viable indefinitely. My pick was a clear no brainer with Hamilton using profitability as my main reasoning.

I agree that Hamilton would be the most logical choice money-wise, but it would just add another boring group of fans to the league, a bunch of corporate suits, who could care less about what's going on, on the ice... Quebec City would be good for the game, the players would love the atmosphere... But like has been said i'm not sure Quebec could support it, which is too bad...

You can say a lot about leafers, but to call them a boring group of fans would be a stretch.

I think he just meant atmosphere within the Leafs arena. It's filled with Corporate stuffed shirts. Montreal's arena has great atmosphere from what I hear but to say a teams fanbase is boring is overstating things I think. All teams have there diehards and have a passionate base of fans. If you are judging it solely on arena atmosphere then I think you are making a big mistake.

No, I mean people who actually go to the games in the arena... Every team in the league has passionate fans, it's just how many of those actually get to go to the games... Which in Toronto is very low, same in Ottawa..

Thats what I meant. Atmosphere created by the actual fans that go to the games.

My backyard so I can watch from my bedroom window in the warmth of my house - and get to see TRUE HD with my own eyes.

    That's my preference.

And if not that, then Toronto. Why they don't have 2 teams is beyond me.

Backyard would be cool but traffic would be rough LOL. I'd take backyard only if I can live off earnings from this website :D

Quebec City for sure. It's been too long since there was a battle of Quebec. I'd love to see that.

Depends on what you base your vote on. Mine was based on economic viability. If my vote was based on where I'd love to see a team then I agree with you Stargate.

Yeah Quebec City is good, Toronto, Winnipeg (no corporation I heard?), Regina (tee hee), the Maritimes (if there can be one in Vancouver, then this should be fine).

Absolutely agree with that comment. Hard to argue QC over Hamilton as far as that goes, but I'd love to see another team in Quebec.

Seeing as I've decided to comment on everything else why not this.

My husband wrote quite a nice thesis in University on how Las Vegas would save the NHL and turn it into a top 3 sport like NFL and Baseball.

I'll save you all the boring stuff but the basic theme is that being in Vegas would bring in betting dollars and he showed how interest in the NFL increased each year as the amount being spent on betting on NFL games went up.

I tend to think that while they should put another team in Canada, I think they will go to Vegas. The first sport in Vegas will thrive, and if I'm Bettman I secretly go to the casino's and say...

"While we can't publically endorse betting on our sport, we would like to know what we can do to help you to increase betting."

Things like accurate injury reports 24/48 hours before a game. Starting players/goalies declared 24 hours before game time...etc

Doing things like this will increase betting, and Dawg believes that increasing the betting will dramatically increase interest in the sport. Like the NFL, more people betting, in pools...etc will increase the popularity.

Very interesting move that could increase the popularity of the sport in a new market.
