TBH I don't know enough about him but I was under the impression he was more of a bottom pairing guy.

He's underrated. He's on the low end of top-4 (maybe more like a 4/5 guy), but he plays a sound game. Good physicality. I don't know if he has a walloping hip check though. That's what I'll miss most from Methot. Love a good hip check.

We might find out that Methot held Karlsson back from his third Norris.

I never really thought about that! Imagine how many more points Karl would have had if he played with a partner who had even a little bit of offensive upside.

I personally think it would be more important to have gifted offensive forwards for him to get the puck to and to have that offensive D on the PP with him. As for 5 on 5 I think a more defensive minded D is an important asset to have with Karlsson because he drives so much of the offense.

Look at Subban and how many points he racked up via secondary assists with Markov. I think Karl is responsible enough to play with someone who isn't necessarily a stay-at-home defenseman.

I think he could play with a Chabot style player, but we'd give up some grade a chances when hemmed unto the defensive zone.

That and I would rather have Chabot provide Karlsson like offensive plays on D pair 2 thereby spreading out the offense. Honestly, I see Karl and Phaneuf playing a lot of minutes together and Claesson Ceci being pair #2. Chabot will start in the AHL and they will ride a Boro Wideman pairing or decide if Harpur can play on his off side.

I see the opposite. I think karlsson can do well with claesson who'll be tasked with a more one dimensional role.

I don't want to see claesson having to play with Ceci when he makes bad decisions.

So...Dreger reports Phaneuf is still on the block. No idea what we're doing right now.

Yeah... me neither. Dion played really well for us this year. Do we want to get out from under his contract? Doesn't seem logical. Unless they have a deal in place for a younger Dman to take his place.

    So weird.

I assume they would, but a part of me is afraid they plan on playing 'the kids'.

Oh we figure there's a plan, we might just not like it. Like Spez said, if the plan is to rely on the kids it likely won't be good.

You can be an excellent defensive player and still not be a black hole on offense.

Can anyone remember the last time Methot delivered a hip check?
