    Meddling Melnyk faces lawsuits.

Post by Cap'n Clutch on Fri Mar 31, 2017 11:06 am

This looks good on Melnyk. It's not a big secret that Melnyk likes to meddle in the day to day operations of the team and micromanages down to who gets picked up in trades and who gets ice time. He deserves everything he gets if the allegations are true.

I have zero sympathy for that person. He didn't do his job well and some of his demands are ridiculous. It's business, not personal.

If by "that person" you mean Melnyk then I totally agree. Business is business yes but, the guy WAS doing his job to the best of his abilities. Melnyk going on a tyrade and being a complete Donkey doesn't make it business it makes it personal. It's the Dung product on the ice and if he kept his nose out of it and maybe let Murray go earlier since it IS supposed to be business not a lovefest for Murray then maybe the team would have been better and people would actually WANT to go to games.

His evaluations were consistently great. You can dress up a pig in it's Sunday best but, you're still dealing with a pig. I have zero sympathy for Melnyk if the courts ream him right up his selfish ignorant, self important, know it all, Donkey and he has trouble sitting for years after.

Sens' marketing has been piss-poor, sub-standard, just plain bad. This guy was likely collecting a salary 2-3x what I make in high tech (two Comp Sci degrees and 20 years experience) and, frankly, I find it hard to believe you could do a much worse job if you only tried a little. Remember, he is not the guy who came up with the marketing slogans, but he is the one who approved them.

And as for Leeder, that performance review (or the small part they printed) was very weak sauce. Being able to "prioritize the big rocks" is boilerplate mixed with a little management course analogy. "Deliver a high volume of ourput" says absolutely *nothing* specific. Most of us here know of SMART objectives; if we stated a subordinate's goal as "deliver high volume of output" we should be fired on the spot! And "puts in many extra hours to ensure he is meeting deadlines" is what everyone does, everywhere! Either he is not competent enough to deliver in the time allotted, or the time allotted is too short -- which he should have immediately reported to his manager. You work long hours when something unexpected happens, it should not be the norm.

See I can agree that Ottawa has probably poorly staffed its offices with not the greatest talent especially when it comes to marketing. Just judging from an exterior position, I think the team has done a piss poor job at marketing itself.
On the other hand I think Melnyk has shifted the blame on anyone but himself for failing to adress this team's need by his self imposed budget.
If anything he's also acted against his president in operations which is never a recipe for good managerial practice. His reported conversations are anything but professional. Sure Ev is right, this happens all the time. But there are many mismanaged companies out there. Being the status quo or the average is not what makes you successful.

If anything has been the worst marketing campaign for Ottawa it's his big Cussing mouth running off all the time.

I can understand that a team can operate on a budget but there is no reason to make that part public knowledge. There are several ways to adress that issue without clearly highlighting the lack of willingness to spend.
Melnyk is a megalomaniac and should be completely detached from the running of the team.

I have slightly more faith in who was recently hired and although wether theirrecord of development is questionable in terms of success, at least they do have one.

What's not in question is that the Sens are the worst marketed team in the NHL. How dare our attendance be in the bottom third of the league. You're all Cussing fired. There, no you can all sue me too.

It's hard to polish a turd Sarcasm

But seriously. I think fan resentment and a build up of people not coming to game and supporting the team comes as much from fans feeling Melnyk is taking them for granted and his budget than from Dung marketing.

Of course at this stage marketing you can fix. It's harder to fix melnyk. You think the doctors could have performed a lobotomy when he went under the knife. Just have a big goofy smiley owner after that as a public figure. Hell! Might even be able to make him another mascot, make him skate with the prime ministers(another stupid image decision)

Exactly. There's nothing in that article to suggest anything other than Melnyk acted unprofessional at best and down right idiotic at worst.

Agreed. Let's see what the new "regime" can do with Melnyk, behind the scenes and in front of the media, sabotaging things.

That's literall his side of the story and nobody else. Don't be biased here. The marketing guy was unprofessional by whining about his bonus to the owner when he didn't perform for years
