At this point a top 5 pick seems all but a lock. How would you draft the top 5 prospects in terms of ranking relative to need?

    Dahlin
    Svechnikov
    Zadina
    Tkachuk
    Boqvist

    probably right now for me.

What's the upside of Svechnikov over Zadina and Tkachuk?

What's the upside of Svechnikov over Zadina and Tkachuk?

Svechkinov is explosive and more of a sniper. He's good good size and has shown very well in North America. Also coming over to play USHL shows he is committed to the NHL.

Zadina is close, great consolation prize. He's very skilled and a great skater, he's probably more of a playmaker than Svechnikov.

Tkachuk would be good at 4 onwards IMO. He isn't as skilled or explosive. He plays exactly like his brother. Both pests with skill, good skating, great size.

Garrioch was feeding the trolls today.
Mentioned TB as landing spots for Ceci and Karlsson

That's not a Garrioch rumour, that's been around for a while now. And it 100% makes sense, as Tampa has the assets to trade, the can fit Karlsson this year and next, and it would make them Cup favourites.

You can’t make the trade for karlsson unless sergachev is coming back in that deal. And plus some other pieces. Probably 4 pieces.

I doubt that happens though. Dorion would get crucified.

Personally I don’t know where I would sit on that deal. If we lose kalrsson we cannot lose duchene or else that’s a full scale rebuild we need.
Kalrsson’s longterm health is worriesome. If he’s not going to be 100% then you probably have to trade him because he can’t be making 12 mill with how he’s playing. If he gets better then you just traded a generational player. And that will hurt the fans and the franchise. No matter what the return is.

Cody Ceci on the other hand... trade away!

Also, the names we keep hearing out of Tampa that could be included in a deal for kalrsson aren’t the ones we ultimately want. So there’s that too. Dealing kalrsson has to be a home run.

Well, if we ended up losing Karlsson for nothing, then everybody in management and the owner gets crucified. If we trade him and give it the old Kyle Turris "We don't think he wanted to sign here" line, then some fans buy that as the only way out. And as you say, there's some health problems to worry about in addition to his performance this year. At least we don't have to make the decision THIS year on what to do.

If Hoffman's asking price is a 1st and high-end prospect then Karlsson's is significantly more. Duchene got a king's ransom. No reason why Karlsson shouldn't at least get the same.

I know it's not a Garrioch rumor and it's been around for a while. Just funny that he's bringing up a potential Ceci trade from back in the day that never materialized.

11-12 million a year right here.

Shed some dead weight. Phaneuf has slowed to a halt, Burrows, Oduya, Smith, get a top 5 pick and watch how quick we rebound.

Interesting question asked of Pierre this morning. If Karlsson is moved, does she see Stone as the possible successor to wear the C?

I'd get that jersey in a heartbeat.

Well I'd wait for the third jersey with the 3D centurion.

Just to go back and correct this, I actually read the Garrioch article last night. He says that Tampa has been mentioned as a landing spot for Karlsson, but says in the article that Karlsson won't be moved this season.

After watching him play more closely, I would trade him.

There’s some talk that phaneuf could be headed out to LA. I imagine that deal doesn’t happen if we don’t keep a couple of million of his cap hit and if our owner wasn’t so stingy you got to pray that deal happens.

As for bobby “porcelain” Ryan I don’t think we will ever be able to trade him. It’s either retirement, LTIR or buyout.

Earring we might be keeping Hoffman actually sounds good to me. If we’re just retooling we’re gonna need first liners.
I think there’s a fair share of players that might get traded and I feel like it will likely come down to smith, one or two of our bottom 6 forwards and either Ceci or phaneuf. Although Ceci could be a draft trade.

I think Eugene could see the wisdom in eating $2M (per year) on Phaneuf's salary if you're replacing him with a guy making $4M or less...as then we're still paying less per year....but that's hard to project for the next three years.

My guess is it's one of Smith/Pageau (probably Smith), Oduya, Claesson. Maybe Thompson if he gets healthy. I see a Smith for Michael Stone trade happening for some reason. Brass would be a long-shot but someone may overpay for him.

Fans will be upset when Burrows and Phaneuf aren't traded, especially when they hear someone wanted Phaneuf and Melnyk won't eat salary (but would love to eat that cap space).

Ceci at the draft if they get the sense that Karlsson is re-signing. Will get a player back, not a pick/prospect.
