I can think of some intriguing reasons to keep Cole. Namely we might have 1 real NHL defender going into the off-season in Ceci. And even then, with him about to demand big bucks...

True. Thought he had a year left.

I find it funny all this talk about a tear down of the sens. If they trade brassard smith Phaneuf, that’s not a tear down

I argued that exact point on HF yesterday, then I realized I'm dealing with fools only and stopped.

Boro is a legit (albeit 3rd pairing) NHL D-man. Wideman, too, if they extend him. And Chabot is better than either one.

That said, he is recovering from a significant reconstruction of his ankle so I'm not surprised he is not as good as he used to be, but I am also not writing him off a has-been; he will be back to form next season.  Also, if Melnyk does/says half of what's rumored out there, I would not be at all surprised if he pissed Karlsson off (and we know these Swedes can carry a grudge).  Also, EK knows he cannot win by himself, and if his $12M means the likes of Pyatt in the top-six then you can't blame him for not wanting to stick around.  He wants to win the Cup but not at the expense of leaving a $20M "hometown" discount.

There's no accountability coming from the players, especially not the captain.  You were given a rock solid roster this season and Cussed it up from here to eternity, then decided to ask for a trade when the Dung got real.  I don't like it personally, it's his choice, but I'm not a fan.  Maybe the Sens were offering too little, who knows, but I doubt they would, I think they're quite aware of what he'll take or not take.  So it comes down to hurt feelings over Turris and an old Alfie thing?  Get real and grow up.  Wasted year because no one worked hard enough this year - and that goes for Karlsson, Hoffman, Pageau, Brassard, Phaneuf, Anderson.  Bad, bad, bad, bad.  Pretty disgraceful this year and maybe finally it's time to blow it all up and start with Duchene, Stone and Chabot and go from there.

Too bad though, Karlsson was THE guy here and we could have retooled really quick.  Wish management and player could see that, but they're too busy finger banging themselves over budget this and budget that.

First of all, sorry for being late to answer, so some of my points may have already been brought up.

    1. We don't know if Karlsson has made a decision. And if he decided to leave the organization then it's his prerogative to do so. There is a million reasons for wanting to, starting with the owner. He will make big buck wherever he goes, but Florida and Texas (and another one -- someone, help) have not state income tax. Even without the tax advantages, some teams are willing to pay him what he's worth *and* spend to the cap on other pieces to field a team that will compete for the Cup. It's become pretty clear that this will not happen in Ottawa for a minimum 5 years (less, if Melnyk sells).
    2. On paper the team could have been better than last season but they insisted on playing Oduya and Guy's guys ahead of the high-end prospects we were expecting. Both goalies have been very bad. Injuries played a huge part (we were just a point behind the Leafs for 2nd with 2 games in hand when Wideman went down; later we also lost Boro for more than a quarter of the season; White broke his hand in pre-season; Karlsson had his ankle reconstructed and was not his old self for a very long time. And how many broken fingers did Ryan have?

It sounds like Ottawa is keeping Smith and Hoffman. Calgary probably got their guy in Stewart for free. I think the Sens may be done for the day.

Phaneuf, Thompson, Oduya, Brassard gone. Burrows on waivers. Not all that bad...

He's a career AHLer. Injury history, not much upside. Similar to Vincent Dunn. Not happy with the trade personally but it is what it is.

Not as good a haul as I thought.  I would have held out for a 2nd or potentially looked at keeping Cole.

I have no problem with that return. Cole wasn’t gonna get us a second. He’s been scratched so much this season.

Tampa's turn to do something now.

As of 3:01 PM (trades could still trickle in)

Smith, Hoffman, Ceci, Karlsson still remain Senators

Agreed lol. A lot less action than anticipated.

In the last month the Sens have moved: Phaneuf, Dumont, Oduya, Thompson, Brassard, Cole

I saw on Twitter that Burrows will be back on the Sens 4th line when his suspension is over. Yippee.

So it may have been quiet today but still some bodies out the door.
