Even at Karlssons best it's a debate whether he's top 5.

    MacDavid
    Crosby
    Doughty

Those three are all ahead of him and after that it's a debate. Agreed that we got hosed on that deal but waiting for the deadline would have only gotten the Sens a trade that would have seen Karlsson as a rental.

doughty is not ahead of Karlsson IMO. THN has Karlsson ranked 5th going into the season. he"s been herald by most analysts as a top 5 player. and when he's 100% he's top 3.
nothing has shown me that he cannot rebound from the injury. he was well on his way coming back last hear. and if he does rebound completely he'll be back to top 3. even bobby Orr said he's the best D-man to ever play the game.

You cant be serious with that last comment. Karlsson is nowhere near, I mean nowhere near, best defenseman to ever play the game

so dredger said other GM's felt they put a better deal on the table.
maybe we'll start hearing what these other deals could have been.

maybe Dorion has a fetish for getting screwed by Doug Wilson. it's the third time now. there's a pattern.

That's something I don't like at all, I don't want to hear other GMs pissing and moaning about it after the fact. If you really had a better trade offer on the table, he'd be on your team right now.

In all honesty...what's the average going to be in attendance? 6000? 7000? Not more than 8000 on any night IMO. Who the F would drive out to Kanata to see the Sens lol

So Duchene said they haven't discussed a new contract, which is complete crap. What the hell did Dorion do all summer?

Dorion got jobbed on the Hoffman trade for sure. Not only did he get pennies on the dollar in the return, but SJ moved him to a Divisional rival.

You could argue that didn't sit well with Karlsson.

Although I'm fairly certain he didn't want to sign here.

The return was horrible. The only silver lining is he's going to Tampa and we get another pick.

Dorion tried to bluff putting out that rumour that a trade was imminent and other GMs called his bluff. I can't defend him any more. He's got to go. A competent GM would have stood up to Melnyk and refused to make these trades.

The only way that Ottawa ends up "winning" this deal is if Karlsson declines. And I think he'll be just fine.

I said it before, and I'll say it again here...Trading Karlsson, while totally Dung for the here and now, might be the best play long term. That said, if we're totally rebuilding here, then the return for Hoffman doesn't make any sense.

This might not be the end of torching it all to the ground. We'll see what happens with Stone and Duchene.

Anyway, cool that Eugene is saving a bunch more money now. He's gonna need some to get through this season...attendance will be at an all time low.

This was never about winning the trade. It was unwinnable from the start. But with the return they got I honestly would have preferred just picks.

Still can't wait for the season to start. Still optimistic. PP will be better. Team will be faster. Anderson will be better.
