Unless it's not lockout protected. Then he can do better if he can get guaranteed money in the lock-out. What Ottawa should do is provide 50% of his salary as a guarantee in the lockout year as a bonus for that year.

But it seems with Duchene it's not about the money. He's close to home which is a huge factor for him. This all makes me think he knows more about Ottawa's "plans" than we do and he doesn't like what he's hearing.

I've been trying to guess what Ottawa's roster could look like next season. I think it will be equally bad. I don't blame Duchene or Stone for wanting to walk. I don't necessarily blame Dorion either.

It entirely depends on who is still here. If Stone and Duchene are, and we get better goaltending, then we will be better. Batherson and Brown will be on the team. If Stone and Duchene are not, then we will be finishing at the bottom to try to get Lafreniere.

Anderson needs to be moved or transitioned to backup as he can't handle it anymore and IMO is one of the big reasons we are at the bottom
Hard to tell with Anderson but I agree that he should be moved. Heís not part of the rebuild, letís grt something in return. He might have a good playoff run in him left so let him try it with a contender.
I still tho k we finish near the bottom next year even with stone and Duchene. We might score often but thereís not really any help coming from the backend.

Guys like chabot lajoie Jaros and Wolanin would be better just with an extra year of maturity and summer of growth. Most d start off pretty poorly in the league.
fait enough, but i still dont see top pairing guys in those(apart from chabot). i think their ceiling is 2nd pairing. i'm not an amzing analyst of talent but i want to keep in mind that maybe one or two of them might be a bottom pairing guy at best

I donít care what Lafreniere is wrecking in the Q right now, I still see Byfield as the 2020 1st overall.

Either or

Agreed I just meant they would get better , not that they would be first pairing guys. I like DeMelo-Chabot as the first pair.

I think Wolanin will be a good second pairing PMD. Lajoie a good third pairing.

Ottawa should be focusing on locking in a young, shutdown RHD (not named Cody Ceci) this summer. Someone like Trouba has always interested me. I'd look into Dougie Hamilton but so many teams for such a young guy scares me.

RHDs are rare these days hence why I think we would get a good return for Ceci. And also why I think the Sens are hesitant to move him despite all the evidence supporting how bad he is.

Our defense should look something like this next season:

Chabot-Hamilton
Wolanin-De Melo
Lajoie-Jaros
Boro

I'd look into moving Harpur or carrying him as the 8th d-man while giving JBD and Tychonik another year to develop. I'd look into moving Boro also if there is a team willing to take him. But that might be a deadline move for next spring.

There sure are enough museums in Ottawa. Sarcasm

But seriously, the cost to acquire him and the timeline of our rebuild tells me this doesnít make sense. Plus he doesnít seem to stick anywhere which you have to admit is a bit of a red flag.

One possibility that Iíve contemplated is a Stone deal to Calgary with Hanafin as part of the return.

How did we get Hamilton

Not sure. But doesn't our defense look infinitely better with him over Ceci?

Agreed. But there is still a cap floor to hit and having stability on the back end helps everyone else on the team develop. He's 25 and has two years left on his contract. By the time the Sens are ready to spend money he'll be a UFA

I don't see Calgary moving Hanafin. I think the Flames are interested in Stone purely as a rental.

I heard this as well.

I imagine the Isles are probably interested in Duchene and could have a lot of interesting pieces to offer.

Thatís a good guess. But Imagine they do not want him solely as a rental. Which would be good for us asset wise. Iíll take their two first round picks from last year please 😊

I can't see Isles for Duchene. They are just starting a rebuild and they are not very attractive for UFAs IMO. They play in a horrible location/arena right now.

I'm leaning towards Duchene re-signing right now.

I donít know if theyíre still rebuilding or transitioning. They have some interesting prospects but they may not want to part with them to get a resigned Duchene.
If they could add Duchene free of charge it could start looking like they may start contending again. They arenít strong contenders but I donít buy that theyíre in a position to start a rebuild

I agree. They have money to spend and with a couple key pieces at the deadline and during free agency they're far from a rebuild.

The day Tavares left was the first day of their rebuild. Rebuild doesnít mean you have to suck every year. I canít see them landing many top players, they never have in their existence just like the sens

I disagree. Had you did not have Barzal maybe so. But heís shown he can pick up this team and go. If they ad a mat duchene this summer they might even get better

Theyíre not done after all but....closer

I just don't see Duchene being interested. Barzal is their top guy and Duchene would want to be the top guy IMO. I'd say their current roster other than Barzal and a few guys is very similar to ours (with Stone and Duchene) they just have way better coaching and have been getting great goaltending (maybe unsustainable from Lehner) all year. This was a team projected to finish near the bottom.

The problem with NYI, IMO, is if I'm a free agent I would always want to go to NYR instead if I'm going to New York.
