They paid big money to keep hellebuyck but I don’t see him and Brossoit as really playoff tested.

Seems like there’s a deal to be made there.

So according to Friedman, Dorion won’t make his decision on our UFAs for another 5 days. That’s gonna feel like a long Donkey time...

Pretty stupid. It's giving Dorion 10 days to make arguably the two biggest trades in Sens history. This is asset mismanagement at its finest.

So I've done a little googling. 5 players traded at the deadline who later re-signed in the same summer with the original team. Keith Tkachuk, Matt Moulson, Zbynek Michalek, Antoine Vermette as Roman Polak. In all cases this was not a player leaving the team that drafted him and the only team he's played for. Could definitely argue none of those players were off Stone's caliber.

But there's a first time for everything.

It’s funny because the news is Duchene isn’t discounting re-signing with the Sens this summer if he’s traded. So that would be a coup if we could pull that one off. I’m not gonna hold my breath.

Plekanec also, no? But why would they give up a year of term to do that? The Sens will be good in 2-3 years. Over their 8 game losing streak, they lost 7 one goal games and they've been in most games they lost this year. Here's some info to digest:

- We have one of the best players in the OHL coming up next year in Formenton
- Three AHL rookie of the year candidates
- Batherson 1st in the league for rookie points per game, (10+ games) and first in scoring
- Brown 10th in rookie points per game, tied for 9th in scoring
- Wolanin 3rd for rookie d-men in points per game, 9th in scoring
- One of the best forwards in the NCAA in Norris
- JBD has been one of the best rookie defencemen in the NCAA
- Joey D'Accord has put up record numbers in the NCAA
- We will have a new coach

I’m gonna argue that trading Karlsson was probably the biggest. But those two and the impact of trading them has also a huge impact. This needs to be like trading yashin, a huge win.
I’m sure (he better) that Dorion is already taking in offers for both as we speak. 10 days should be ample amount of time at this time of the year. Especially that the market is waiting on those dominos to fall.

I’ll tell you why. Because they both believe they can get better looking front loaded deals that will ultimately make them more money (if they have good asset managers managing their money) than an 8 year deal that is spread out. Plus I doubt they have lockout protection in Ottawa. Some other team might . Also, if a team like dallas were to offer them a contract, the real dollars du to taxes would be better. But if the market isn’t what they thought it was they can always circle back.

We have good rookies, but 50% of teams also have some comparables. Some of the guys you listed might not pan out, there’s still question marks on Brown and nothing is for sure for Norris, Joey and JBD. Never overestimate your own farm team.

BUT, trading both those guys and getting 4 top assets and a few more might go a long way to speed up this rebuild. Especially if Duchene comes back in the summer.

I also think that trading Dzingel will likely happen on trade deadline day. Teams desperate to make up ground against other teams having made a splash.
Ceci is likely gone at the draft. Likely for an underwhelming return.

They already know what they would want and can get. It’s been going on for months. It won’t be that hard to trade these guys if needed

Plus none of those players have NTCs. But that puts more emphasis on Dorion to not Diddle it up.

Yes, Plekanec. Although he was well past his "best before" date.

True, Stone and Duchene would give up the 8th year if they left and came back, but they'd be giving up that 8th year regardless if they don't sign now. Leaving now gives them the possibility of trying to win with a contender right away.

Not sure Duchene cares about an 8th year anyway.

Batherson dominated at the World Juniors, played well at the NHL level and is now the leading rookie scorer in the AHL.  He's as close to a sure thing as you can get.  Wolanin showed what he can do last year and this year, both in the AHL and when he got called up. Formenton will likely need some time in the AHL.  Chlapik may not have the high ceiling of somethinge of the others but this guy led his Junior team in both points and PIMs. He should be able to do what Paajarvi is doing but with more edge.  Brown looks like he has turned a corner.  I don't expect him to be a major contributor next year but his ceiling is all the way to the rafters.  What other team has a 6'7" center prospect with NHL pedigree?

And if the return on Ceci if underwhelming, don't forget that replacing him with Jaros is an improvement.

JR was theorizing on TGOR this morning that the Sens could trade Duchene or Stone to Columbus as part of a 3-way deal that sees Panarin go elsewhere. I doubt something of THAT magnitude goes down, but the possibilities are endless.

That's how Duchene was acquired. I wouldn't put it pas Dorion to try something like that

I watched parts of the game yesterday. Brown's skating looks like it's improved a little. He had no problem getting up and down the ice. His issues will be staying healthy and competing every night.

Brown has taken a major turn. He looks very quick and bigger than everyone else of course. I'm so excited for him. I'm hoping we can retain Duchene so he gets sheltered a bit.
