Whatever happens, we're gonna be pretty fun to watch with Cullen and Sutton (especially Cullen once he gets going). Let's see how far this wave can go! Ahhhhh!

It would be a complete disaster for about 20 seconds until one of them goes to the box and the other team scores on the pp. so yeah, it is the worst idea ever. amateur hour is upon us.
a -3 on the islanders isn't so bad This is a great pick up and our team is now set.

It's a solid pickup, I would be careful saying great. THis gives Murray and CLouston a lot of different options and defently added toughness.

Adding Cullen and Sutton for 2nd rounders to take a legit shot at the conferance... why not. Those are late 2nd rounders too.

Every single analyst, GM, player, or writter with LEGIT connections to The NHL and the organizations like Sutton and what The Sens got. Dont encourage him to post, it just brings the site down along with the conversation.

That's fine. I'll do just that since I confess I really haven't noticed him since he was taking bonehead penalties and playing one of the dirtiest games in the NHL for Atlanta.

People expecting something other then depth moves at the deadline are mental, teams that usually do that do not win.

Murray added 2 guys while subtracting 1 player in Picard and not giving up a single prospect, even Lee and O'Brien. He traded 2 late, 2nd round picks... he's hit 2 home runs with their 2nds the last 2 years plus another in Silvferberg who will 100% be an NHL player. Oh well, Murray is going for it without hurting the depth of the organization or disrupting the room.

Touche! Everything you read about Sutton is that he's a beast and a superb guy to have in the room. Listening to his comments about coming here is extremely encouraging and let's face it, Clouston has a gift of getting everything and more out of players.

Exactly. You add character, toughness, expierence, and a cup right with Cullen for what? Basically nothing. Ottawa is still going to get a good player in the 1st round this year (a forward I hope) so people shouldnt be too upset. Ottawa has a ton of depth so dont worry about 2, late 2nd round picks.

I'm pleased with both Cullen and Sutton. They both give us added trade options as well as lineup flexibility.

I'm not kidding myself either, but Sutton is a tough hombre and that's good enough for me on a playoff team. (Just like Cheechoo would have been, by the way).

Stempniaksen, this is for you. I just did a quick scan of twitter and didnt go to far back.

mirtle - bet every team has a line theyre DYING to get out against the SS Andy Sutton

JaspersRink - Stay away from Sutton unless you enjoy watching guys score back door on your goalie.

BenThrashers - The thing about Sutton is he can tell you exactly how many hits and blocked shots he has. he chases them over good D play

and if you dont know who these guys are, I can't help you. they watch hockey 24/7 and have press credentials for their respective teams, something no one on this site has. I am probably the closest to having that on this site.

They have press crednetials because no one else covers their teams. An ignorant blogger is better then nothing I guess when you're The Thrashers.

Seriously. If Sutton and Cullen help bring in MILLIONS of dollars for Melnyk, I think he takes that over a 2nd roudner as well. You beat me to this comment.

Both of you aren't suggesting we wouldn't make the playoffs without these moves are you? Or that Cullen and Sutton will get us through an extra round of the playoffs?

Wow. These are DEPTH moves. Nothing more.

No, but the depth added and the type's of players added could very well lead to a series win or two, brining in more money for Melnyk.

Just my opinion, but against a team like Washington, and with CLouston's playing style, we'd better of playing an offensive style of game .
Sutton, Carkner, Volchie etc are good against cycling teams, but I think against a fast transition team like Washington I'd rather have a puckchecking defenseman like Philips or Karlsson on the ice.

You have Campoli to step in to play that number 6 role then. If Sutton isnt working then you do that when you want some extra offense. This move gives Clouston and Murray a lot of options.

The depth in Ottawa is as good as any team in The East at this point. Injuries hit The Sens, it's not a problem.

THe question is, Is SUtton a big upgrade over Carkner? what does he do better? Because if Campoli plays, and he better be playing (not sure about Kuba and Karlsson the only pairing with offensive upside), then Carkner sits.

I guess what I don't understand is, we didn't really upgrade our defense, while losing a 2nd round pick.

Does he need to be a big upgrade over Carkner in the number 6 role? Hell, Sutton will probably be scratched at some point in the playoffs if The Sens cant score but as the number 6 guy, a big body and a mean SOB during a 7 game series, it could pay off in a big way.

There is a reason Murray went out and got this guy.

So you're comfortable giving up a 2nd rounder for a guy who might sit a few games? in this day and age where a 2nd rounder + can get you a top 4?

BUT, with the recent comments i read here and there, he might be better than 6th defenseman.

If Sutton sits, he sits, Im fine with it. The 60th pick overall could very well take 5 plus years to ever play in The NHL, The Sens dont really need any more projects, they need some depth right now and in the future. Im totally fine with this trade win or lose because it shows Murray is trying to go for it but hasnt given up anything of real signifigance.

Sutton fits in perfectly in that number 5, 6 role and that's what Murray paid for. You could go out and get Hamious and give up a ton and Sutton could still be a better fit at this time. He is looking for the right player, not the best one. That's waht good GM's do.

market value i guess. leopold just went for the same, so did grebeshkov. it's all relative. different type of players for sure, but still depth defenseman anyway you look at it. when you start getting into robidas, hamhuis, lesser extent burns, that is when you will see the price rise.

agreed. one of my biggest fear a while back is that even if we performed well up to now the lack of experience from some of our players would hurt us in the playoffs. murray has done a good job with that it seams. i aint to knowledged on the play of sutton but i tend to trust analysts a little. i still don't see us as a cup contender (not till our young D prospects get some experience) but this will be great practice. especially for karlsson.

you mentioned silfersberg. his stats don't impress me much right now but i'll admit it's all i know on him at the moment, well for a top 6 prospect. what do you know? would love to hear an in depth article or something, anybody?

petersson seams to be doing alright though, has the scoring touch a little, something that doesn't happen much in the SEL.

Silferberg is the kind of guy that will be a 3rd line center, he was great at the WJC from what I saw. He will be in the NHL for sure, in what role? Not sure, but he's a sure fire NHL forward.

Petersson, he has to get stronger, bigger, and more mature as a player, all the skills in the world though.

Cant look at stats in the SEL, tough to get a grasp there, it's a different monster.

As for us being a cup contender, the only team that is better then Ottawa right now for sure is Washington, but even they have some big holes. Anything can happen in The East right now but smart money is def on Washington.

For Pitts to actually have a shot, Malkin is going to have to wake up, he's been asleep since he won the cup.

Also, who knows what happens before the draft. If we deal Leclaire, you are probably getting a 2nd rounder back. Look at a team like Edmonton who has an extra one now, you may very well get that back.

Just because Murray doesnt have a 2nd now for those who love their 2nd round picks, doesnt mean he wont have one later. There are a few guys that could very well be on their way out after this season depending on the goaltending and who Murray resigns.

Sutton for a 2nd is a little heavy but if it translate to an extra home game or two for The Sens (I think that's 8-10 million dollars) then Im sure Melknyk will be pretty happy, along with Murray.

Like what? Who are they going to have in goal next year that they wont have to give up a ton for? Khabibulin is probably done, their two goaltenders right now are awful. There are probably a couple guys out there like Schiender who they can probably obtain but other then that... they are limited to say the least.

Tons of UFA goalies this year. Guys like Turco, Ellis and Emery, Biron and Nabokov come to mind.

That's not even counting prospects who could be available who would be good fits like Schneider, ect.

Leclaire is not a good fit for that team right now.
