Shocking. I had no idea this was coming.
Will he be claimed?

No doubt, and really what does he bring to that table other than a bit of grit? Not a lot for that kind of dough.
Re: Brendan Witt Waived
That is a lot of moulah, yeah.

Re: Brendan Witt Waived
Didn't he get hit by a car this year and walk it off? I'd claim him solely for that reason.

I said the same thing.

Yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath on Cowen making the NHL next year. If Murray's smart, he'll at least be open to the idea of Cowen continuing to get stronger in either the AHL or Spokane.
Same with Wiercioch, I love that he wants a degree, but at the same time, him and Cowen could be a nice tandem in Bingo for the year IMO.
Still tons of development and tons of strength conditioning to be done on both. I...have reservations about him making the jump to the NHL next year so quickly. But, if anything, Murray has shown us that he knows exactly what he's doing.

Agreed. I am in no rush to see those guys get thrashed around, especially considering their size (by that i mean bulk).

I'd take a chance his SIM stats are decent.

Cowen's more of a work in progress to become a high-calibre NHL defenseman. He doesn't have the off the charts IQ that Karlsson does, but he has physical gifts that Karlsson could only dream of.
Cowen's going to be developed in a more classic sense by paying his dues in the juniors, minors and then seeing spot duty up with the club before he sticks permanently. I'd suspect at least two years before Cowen is ready to come up and impress Sens' brass.

Re: Brendan Witt Waived
I'll go with one year (after this), but yeah, you're right on I think. I guess we'll see though because Murray didn't mince words on him, he seemed to think he was NHL ready.

Re: Brendan Witt Waived
Witt could possibly replace part of what Volchenkov brings, and $3M might be less than Volchenkov is wanting. Questions should be is why is NY waiving him? Do they need the cap room for something?
Re: Brendan Witt Waived
People are saying it's as if he skates in quicksand. Slow as molasses - so probably not a great idea.

Re: Brendan Witt Waived
I've always liked Witt, but I don't think we really need him. We have Carkner. Basically the same player for what, 2.3 Million less. Besides, if we don't re-sign Volchenkov it's because we want to allocate that cap space to other places. Volchenkov is definitely worth the extra 500k-750k.

Carkner is a better skater than Witt. Hell, Cheechoo is a better skater than Witt.

Carkner is a beast. Screw anyone else.
