TRADE DEADLINE BONANZA!
Let's try to put all the rumours in here. Obviously, when something actually happens, we'll make a thread for it.

Attention NHL fans; I can assure you that Ilya Kovalchuk is leaving the Atlanta Thrashers. He will be traded sooner than later.

Firesale in Atlanta when they are a point out of the playoffs? Weird.
I saw Dreger post that the fire sale has begin in Edmonton. They are talking trade with anyone who'll listen.
Personally I'd like to know what it'll take to get Penner in a Sens jersey.

They don't need Mr.Glass himself Lehtonen anymore, IMO if they can get a prospect or a pick, then do it.

With the deadline blogs and other deadline coverage popping up everywhere it seems to me the consensus deadline is the 12th of February. Should be an uneventful Tradecentre this year.

Re: TRADE DEADLINE BONANZA!
http://www.fromtherink.com/2010/2/2/1289934/sources-ilya-kovalchuk-close-to
Atlanta Thrashers left wing Ilya Kovalchuck, this year's top catch on the NHL's trade market, may be on his way to Hollywood. Sources are rumbling that a deal is nearly complete that would send Atlanta's franchise player to the Kings. There are currently no details on what the Thrashers would receive in return for one of the NHL's top snipers.
Atlanta made Kovalchuk the first overall pick in the 2001 draft and he has registered 328 goals and 287 assists for 615 points in 593 career games, including 31 goals and 27 assists so far this season. But with Kovalchuk's first crack at unrestricted free agency approaching, Thrashers GM Don Waddell has struggled to convince the Russian that Atlanta can put together a competitive team around him in Blueland.
Los Angeles have been perhaps the busiest shopper in the early goings of the this season's trade deadline frenzy. TSN's Bob McKenzie reported today that the Kings were so close to an agreement with Carolina for Ray Whitney that Los Angeles GM Dean Lombardi spoke to Whitney's agent about an extension — a conversation that reportedly ended when the 37-year-old forward, who has a no-trade clause — asked for a three-year extension.
But it appears Lombardi has moved on from Whitney — and perhaps Atlanta's 2-1 loss tonight to Tampa Bay will be Kovalchuk's last with the Thrashers.
Mike's Update: Just wanted to put my two cents in here...for anyone worried that we're going to turn into a rumor site, we definitely will not. This came from a source that many of the SBN hockey folks trust, and while nothing's certain until it's certain, we felt as a group that it was reliable enough to be put up as food for thought.

Why wouldn't they want a forward??? I'd tell them Teubert and Schenn or eat my Donkey. There's enough suitors to get Lombardi to bite. LA isn't guaranteed a playoff spot, but I suspect the heat is on. The fans think this team is good enough and probably expect nothing less than a playoff appearance.

Hmmm...people think it's Moller or Simmons and perhaps even Jack Johnson (who sucks) or Hickey or Teubert and a pick and perhaps Frolov. It's interesting to sift through it because absolutely no one knows what they're talking about.

Re: TRADE DEADLINE BONANZA!
Andrew Brunette would be a nice add - so nice, in fact, that I don't get why Minny would move him.
He's still a good hockey player (on pace for 60+ points), he's cheap and signed past this season, and he's a character guy who provides veteran leadership.
Minny's dragged itself out of the basement and is in a push for the post-season themselves. Dealing him for Brian Lee, especially when their blue-line is pretty strong as is, doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I wonder if they fall out of it by the time the deadline rolls around...do they flip him for a guy who's practically a home town kid?

Yeah, it's crazy. Bare minimum the price would be is Foligno. Why else would Minny move him? They might not get into the playoffs, but they 'got' the new system and are headed in the right direction - and he's got to be considered a big reason why.

Boston Bruins have made it known to teams throughout the league that Michael Ryder is available for trade.
From McKenzie's tweet.
How can the Sens get this guy. I've always liked him a lot. Perfect for Spezza's win so Alfie can move to the 2nd line and Kovalev can move to LW.

He has more years on his deal doesn't he? If so, no thanks. He had a real good year last year in Boston, but so did everyone else. I can't help but wonder how much he could help the Sens. And I really don't want another $4 million salary to add to Alfie, Spezza, Kovalev, and Fisher. Unless that salary is for a D man. Visnovsky perhaps? Edmonton is ready to deal.

He certainly fits our needs, but it's a long term contract. $16.5 million owed to him over the next 3 years (after this one). By then though, we ought to have at least 2 of our 3 studs as regulars on our blueline.

The Sens aren't trading Foligno or a 2nd round pick unless it's for a stud replacement. Visnovsky and Cogliano don't qualify as said stud.

4-5-1 in their lat 10 is not much of a push. They lost to Dallas just last night too.

I just find it odd, which leads me to believe untrue, that the kleague supposedly has veto rights and would exercise them if Tampa tried to trade Vinny, yet Atlanta is allowed to trade pending FA Kovalchuk? Yeah, one is a UFA, but the league should step in and make Kovalchuk re-sign
Notes from around the league...
- Flames have placed Lundmark on the block.
- Bruins have placed Ryder on the block.
- Kesler has put off contract negotiations with Canucks until season's end.

If we offered up more they might consider it. But they probably don't want to play against him 8 times a year. Calgary? Nah, can't see that after the way they treated his brother. Edmonton for Lubo? They would have to throw in more though for Lubo.
